Using the new Transcript feature

Hi all. I am struggling to get the new transcripts feature to work. I have updated Storyline 360 to v3.76.30446.0.

I have Closed Captions throughout my project - both with Video and Audio objects. When previewing, I can use the player's CC button to display them.

I normally use the standard Player Controls in the Player settings that always stay visible below the course content in the player. When I turn on Accessibility controls, I get a cog icon at the bottom of the player, but this does not have an option to display the transcript (I've read that this is automatically generated from a project's Closed Captions). It has an Accessible text option, but I don't think this is used to display the transcript. Please see screenshot in attachment 01.

I have then tried using the Dark Video Controls option on an individual video's options to use the built in transcript button that way, but they only appear when I hover over the project.

Ideally, I would like to add a Transcript button to the static player controls below the course content as per the first screenshot attachment. If this isn't possible, how do I enable the hover over player controls (Dark option) for all video and audio in bulk without doing them individually?

Also, is there a built in project variable that I can use to turn on/off the Transcripts manually via a custom button (just like you can using the Player.DisplayCaptions variable for captions on/off)?

Thanks all in advance.

  • Hi Ray,

    Happy to help!

The transcript icon is unique to the accessible video controls bar, and there isn't a way to move this to the Player. For now, you'll need to enable the accessible video controls for your video files to access the feature. It looks like you're already familiar with how transcripts work, but here is our article on enabling the transcript icon for your reference:

As for enabling the video controls for all media files, this feature isn't currently available right now, but it does sound like a handy feature to have, especially for users who work with a high volume of video files. The same with the transcript built-in variable, this is not yet available, but thanks for letting us know that this is something you're interested in accessing in future releases of Storyline 360.

  • I am checking in on this thread as I cannot see the transcript button either. I have accessibility controls enabled and am using the latest version of SL. Is there something else I need to do to get this feature to work? I've attached a screenshot of what I see when viewing the course. Thank you for your help.

  • the transcript button is NOT on the main navigation

the button is only on the video navigation bar

  • you can export the cc of a single media as vtt file

    -> Media Library > Video

this is a simple text file

    • remove the unnecessary first lines
    • convert the file to pdf
    • add the pdf in storyline as resourse

Hi, can the transcript button be removed from the player? We have the captions and a separate transcript file so the built in feature isn't required for my project. I can't see where this can be

      Hi Vanita,

The transcript button in the video control bar cannot be hidden. You'll need to hide the whole bar if you prefer not to show the transcript button.

I'm not sure if Javascript can be used to hide this button from the learner's view so I'll let the community jump in in case someone has any recommendations to share!
