Video output is flickering
Hello everyone!
I am working on a project in which I need to make multiple software simulation videos using Articulate Storyline 360. It involves screen recording of the actual activities in the software, then adding highlights, callouts and other overlays, and the audio. The file is then published as a "Video" output as a deliverable.
The problem I am facing for last few weeks is about flickering of the video screen at multiple places. As I try to find out the exact places where it's flickering, and then change/remove the entry exit animations of the respective objects, or replace the object altogether, the issue persists. What I observed is, the flickering is not related to the objects in the file because every time I publish the same file, the flickering points get added at more places (where it was not flickering earlier) or vise-versa (the earlier flickering objects / points don't flicker anymore in the next publish). I am not getting an output that is without this flickering issue.
Surprisingly, when I publish the file as "Web Output", it's a clean output. The flickering issue goes away in the Web Output. It's the issue of only "Video Output".
If anyone has experienced the same issue, please help me resolve this.
Thanks,
Sushil Suryawanshi

Hi Sushil,
Thank you for letting us know!
The behavior you are describing does sound similar to a current issue we are looking into. I'll be sure to include this post on our report so we can provide an update on this issue.
In the meantime, a workaround that should remove the flickering is to revert to version 3.36.21289.0 of Storyline 360. Could I have you try that to see if that resolves this snag? You can find more details on this here:
Please keep us updated and let us know if you have any questions!

Hey, thanks Vincent Scoma! I'll try this workaround and will share my experience on this thread.

Hi Vincent,
The workaround you suggested worked perfectly. Thanks for this.
(It worked well with the 19 Dec, 2019 version (3.35.21017.0).
Best Regards,
Sushil

Just wanted to chime in that I have been fighting an issue lately with "stitching" several videos together into one on a single slide where it would preview beautifully but lag, or stop the videos but not audio (which is part of the video and not a separate item) entirely while the timeline continued. IF a project had text or other layers, the timing would also be off compared to where they were actually placed within the timeline (again would preview correctly). It didn't matter if I published to video or Review.
I finally came across this post and tried the downgrade which made the Published version work! Anyway, wanted to report a similar issue. Thanks!
Hi Melissa!
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us! I've also added your comments to our active bug report to share with our team. We'll report back when we have an update!

Hi Lauren and Vincent, has this issue been fixed in update 41?
Hi Utkarsh!
The fix is not included in Update 41. We're still investigating this issue, so I don't have an update on the timeline yet.

Thanks for getting back Lauren.
Just out of curiosity, I updated my Storyline to version 41 and I am not facing this flickering issue anymore. Will keep on testing and share the contradictions, if any.
Great news, everyone!
Update 44 for Storyline 360 is live: We fixed the issue where images with animations would flicker when publishing a project as a video file.

Hi... I have Storyline version 3.44 build and the video output was flickering... I upgraded to the last version 3.48 and the video was flickering too. Any idea how this can be resolved? Thank you.
Hi Amelie,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing that you are having a similar issue. I have not seen any additional reports. We opened a support case for Jonathan, but have not received a file from him yet.
With your permission, I'd like you to share your .story project file with our support engineers to investigate what's happening. You can share it privately by uploading it here. It will be deleted when troubleshooting is complete.
