I am producing a quiz in Storyline but I want participants to use a specfic sequence when dragging objects for the answer. If they use the incorrect sequence I want that object to bounce back. How can I get this to happen?
You could probably do this with some triggers and conditions, but it may be a bit complicated. Would revealing the letters one at a time work for you? I realize that it may not, but if you want the word spelled in a specific way, it may still be a good interaction for the learner. Even though the correct letters are showing, you can display them in an order that isn't too obvious, so the learner will still have to place them in a way that will help them learn the correct placement.
If Christine's works for you that would be easiest... But I thought I'd try figure it out with some triggers & stuff: (borrowing your pics Christine ; )
Heres what I came up with: I kept the target boxes hidden until the previous one had been guessed.
I know this thread is kind of old but the file attached from Karyn is exactly the way I want mine to work. I tried to rebuild it but I still do have the problem that my second (not visible) drop target works. So if you KNOW that you need to trop it there it still works though it is disabled. In the example from Karyn it is working perfectly, you cannot drop things on the drop targets that arent visible. but i cannot find a difference to my file. Does anybode has an idea, please?
It is the first time I work with variables so maybe I just forget something to set up?
I couldn't find the reason why my file in which I tried ro rebuild the work of Karyn didn't work the same. But I could find another solution for me:
I used the freeform question (instead of variables).
I added a new state for each drop target called "disabled" and in this state I deleted the shape for the drop target. Thats important because the drop target still works if the state is set to hidden or disabled only. Then I set the initial state of the drop target to disabled apart from the first one.
I then added a trigger: Change state of drop target no2. to normal when user drops item1 on target1. (I did this for all drop targets in the correct order - when the previous item has been dropped correctly the next drop target gets usable.)
That works perfect for me! The user can drag (but not drop) all items at any time but he needs to know, which item goes when to where. (In my real example all my drop targets are transparent so not visible.) Otherwise he needs to try again and again as the items pop back to his starting point.
See my example attached. Blue square goes to blue smiley and then orange smiley gets visible.

Hi Danielle,
Wouldn't the built-in 'Sequence Drag & Drop work? (in Insert new slide/Quizzing/graded)
Or if its pictures/objects - How about have numbered boxes & set them as the 'Drop Target' .
For the bouncing back, Look on the part under drop options & set to return to start if dropped outside the correct drop target?
Thanks for your help.
Basically, I need the user to spell a word in the correct sequence, across a page, by dragging each letter up in sequence.
The 'Sequence Drag and Drop" only seems to go down the page.
I changed the options as you suggested but the user can still put the letters in, in a random order, and get the word correct.
Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a quick example:

I'm also attaching the example file to this thread, just in case you want to see how I have it set up.

And here is the story file if you want to check it out.
Thank Christine and Karen,
This is my first use of the forum and I am feeling really supported from your help.
The second option is probably more what I need.
I appreciate your help!
You rock! Thank for for the download.
Hey MaryAnne and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Glad that this older thread was able to help you out. Thanks for popping in to share!
