Font size changes between computers

Jan 10, 2013

Hey guys,

I've been having a problem that has me baffled. My team regularly develops quizzes where one member will edit another member's work on a different machine. Regularly, but not always, the other member opens the file to see that the font sizes have changed on every screen. So if I have a quiz with a screen like this:I can save and re-open the file on my computer and it will remain predictably consistent. But when another team member opens the same file on their computer, they see this:

I've been unable to identify the source of this problem. Any ideas?

Regards,

Bill

Hi Bill. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

That does sound strange. The first thing I would have your team member check is the DPI on their machine.

Storyline will function as expected when Windows is set to 96 DPI (dots per inch).

Storyline doesn't currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

*  Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.

*  Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.

*  Zoomed images don't work as expected.

*  Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI:

We also recently found an issue with a Microsoft update that causes some issues with fonts. If you're using OpenType (OTF) fonts in Articulate Storyline, you may find that text doesn't look right when you preview or publish. Storyline supports OpenType fonts. However, a Microsoft Windows update released December 11, 2012 prevents OpenType fonts from rendering properly.

We provided a programmatic workaround for this issue in Update 2 for Storyline. Please review the following article for more information:
Have your team member take a look a those articles and let us know if the issue continues.
Thanks!

Sorry about that Bill,

Yes, you'll want to check the settings and the update information for Quizmaker as well.

If you're using OpenType (OTF) fonts in Articulate Studio '09 (Presenter, Engage and Quizmaker), you may find that text is missing or doesn't look right when you preview or publish. Please review the following article for more information and solutions:

I apologize for the confusion!
