Think liability is a dry topic that’s sure to put learners to sleep? Think again! This 8-bit game-inspired example looks and feels so much like a video game, you might actually forget you’re learning.
Thanks Jorge. This is a complete Frankenstein of CCO / Royalty Free elements and a bit of Photoshop and MS Paint 3D by me, bundled together into Storyline.
Amazing! So much more engaging than a page turner! Thanks for sharing. Do you have some tutorials or articles about the way you constructed these games? I'm especially interested in the layering, setting up the interactions, and how the scroll true false in the cowboy game worked.
Thanks Donna. Here's a bit more background on the cowboy game:

You can also download a copy of the master file from this page, to see how it works. The layering and animation triggers use the same approach as the Indemnity Jones example.
I truly enjoyed both examples, Jonathan. And I also enjoyed pretending that you provided the "Yahoos" in the cowboy game. I'm looking forward to reading into the background soon. Great job!
Hi David. I'm afraid I can't share the master file as the content is proprietary. The team at Articulate have showcased this as an example of what can be achieved with SL360, which is very flattering.
But if you're interested in how I put this course together, check out this demo, which uses many of the same techniques.

This is amazing!!! So much fun and engaging for the learner! Inspires me to get better at using the Software when you see the possibilities! Thank you!
Thanks Cameo! The example on this page took me about 2 weeks, but is one of a series of courses using the same assets, so that figure may not be accurate. The cowboy example was much quicker, as it is essentially a repeating side-scroller. Just a few evenings, maybe 6-8 hours in total.
I don't have any plans for classes at the moment, but watch this space.
I know this was a while ago, but I'm dying to know Jonathan: how is the 8-bit character bouncing up and down when the user is not moving. Also, when we do click on the next area, how are you doing those animations of moving from one place to another? Are these all just very clever uses of motion paths in SL, or is it a different piece of software?
Now, given that I see you've mentioned that the content is proprietary. So, if my question falls under that purview, I understand. :) Still would love to know. I aspire to create something like this someday. Seems like a ton of fun! :)
Thanks Noah! Probably easier to show rather than tell. I can't share this example, but another of my demos uses the same animation techniques.

TL;DR it's state changes and motion paths and the 'idle' and 'run' character states are repeating GIFs.

Ah, I must not have paid enough attention when I viewed the other project. I only reviewed it rather than downloading it. I'll check it out. Thanks for the fast response! Can't wait to figure out how stuff like this works so I can up my "game", pun mildly intended.
I love this project. It inspired my other project that I created recently and gave a whole different perspective of learning. I think its awesome and great! Great way of storytelling in a learning module and a fun theme!
