In the spirit of the holidays, I decided to create a fun Holiday Readiness Checklist using Articulate Quizmaker ’13. Articulate’s software is so quick and easy to use that I pulled together this great customized interaction in about 30 minutes. Check out the steps that went into this:

Step 1: Select a Question Type

My first move was to decide the type of question to use. I knew I wanted to create a checklist where you have to select multiple items, so going with a “multiple response” question slide seemed like a natural choice. Since it’s a checklist and not a traditional quiz question, I added some intro text instead of a question, then input my selections for responses.

Step 2: Design My Slide

My next step was to visually design my slide. I decided that I wanted the look of a real checklist, jotted down on a piece of paper. I used a wooden texture background to mimic the look of a desk, and a simple white rectangle with a shadow to create my page. I selected a few festive fonts (Castellar and BlackJack) for my headings, then added a sidebar on the right for providing feedback.

Step 3: Edit Feedback Layers

Speaking of feedback, my next step was to edit my Correct and Incorrect feedback layers. I added some text feedback, as well as an icon to represent incorrect and incorrect answers. I like to use the green and red icons to drive home the feedback, since we subconsciously think “correct” when we see green and “wrong” when we see red.

Step 4: Format the Results Slide

Once my checklist looked great and my feedback layers were in order, I moved on to the Results slide. In a few simple clicks, I transformed it by adding a background and customizing the font style and size.

Step 5: Edit the Player

With my Multiple Response slide and my Results slide looking nice and spiffy, I was almost done. But first I needed to edit and clean up the Player. Here, I removed the Player altogether for a very clean look that doesn’t distract from the content. Omitting the Player was easy: I just made the entire Player white, and gave it a white background.

Step 6: Publish and Share

Now the checklist was ready to go! My final step was to do a preview, to run through everything from start to finish and make sure it all worked smoothly. Finally, when everything looked just right, I published for web and uploaded my content to a web server to share the link with others.

Those are my six quick and easy steps to creating this Quizmaker ’13 Holiday Readiness Checklist! If you want to take a closer look at the file, you can download it here for free.
