Engage color Schemes not displaying correct and consistent colors

I am creating new color scheme.. I am changing the xml files. When I go to use the new color scheme... it reflects horrific colors in the development area.... but will reflect MOST of the color changes in the preview area... am I doing something wrong, or is that the way it is designed?

ALSO, When I try to preview tweaks that I make to the xml file colors, I get a message that the intr is open.. but it is NOT.... again, me, or a problem?
