Flipbook Background Transparency

May 30, 2012

It is my understanding that the transparency feature for backgrounds is/was not supported for the Flipbook.  I am trying to determine if a script has been created (or if one could be created) to add this capability to the Flipbook interaction?   It seems a bit strange that I can put the master slide my customer wishes displayed behind all the interactions EXCEPT the flipbook. If this functionality can't be added to the flipbook, it will make this interaction fairly useless to me and my customer.  It seems it should be a simple fix since it is a capability for other interactions.  I appreciate your help in this matter.

For a blog / forum that I thought was supposed to offer customer support, that was a pretty lame reply .  So, let me try again.  How would one go about getting support for a community interaction such as the Flipbook?  Surely you know guys must know who the developer(s) is/are - If I wanted to get script that would allow transparency, who would I have to contact?  Oh, and if giving info that way is not authorized - please know you have my permission to supply the developer(s) with the email address I provided in order to be able to blog (which personally I think is very silly - previously users could post questions without having to "join" a blog / forum).  Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback, Sheila. My reply was not meant to sound dodgy nor overly rigid in terms of sticking to our support policy. The Flipbook Engage interaction has been around for some time, and to the best of my knowledge, as well as my colleagues', there is no way to make it transparent. We do not offer custom development services, however, we are familiar with some third-party developers who you may be interested in contacting to inquire about your needs:

You may also be interested in exploring the possibilities of Storyline, with which you could re-create and design a similar interaction with even more flexibility.

I hope you find that helpful.

Welcome to Heroes, Melanie!

Well, the beauty of Storyline is that you can create almost anything; you're only limited by your imagination. So you could definitely create something just like the Engage Flipbook interaction from scratch, customizing it to function exactly how you'd like. Or, you can import existing Engage interactions into Storyline as well. Here's how:

If you'd like to use an Engage interaction as a player tab in Storyline, review the following article for instructions:

To import an Engage interaction (or a presentation that includes an Engage interaction) into Storyline, you must have Engage installed on your computer and activated with a valid serial number:

Also, it's important to understand that Engage interactions are treated as web objects in Storyline. As a result, you may want to disable the resume feature in your interaction. Otherwise, users will encounter a separate resume prompt when revisiting the Engage slide in your Storyline course:

Be aware that Engage interactions in Storyline work as expected in the default Flash content, but they're not supported in HTML5 or the Articulate Mobile Player app for iPad. For a full comparison of Storyline's Flash, HTML5, and Articulate Mobile Player output, click here:

Sorry for the information overload, but I hope that's helpful

Peter, thank you for the info about the Flipbook community interaction.... I am also in a situation where I need to have 100% transparency so that a classification banner is shown on EVERY slide/interaction in a consistent locatino.  Jeanette suggested the 100% transparency, and so far, it is working like a charm.

I am putting the Flipbook interaction on the 'do not use list ---if you need classification banner,' but I have to ask:   I am asuming the following community interactions are in this same boat:

  • Tic tac toe
  • Flashcards

Thank you so much for all that you guys do to help us newbies!!!!  This is a MAJOR selling point for me with Articulate - your team and the community!!!!
