Audio Echo

I've never been able to use sound in my eLearning courses because until now my users didn't have speakers. Now that they have speakers I am starting to use audio and feel like such a rookie with a problem I am having.
The audio sounds great when I am in the "Articulate Audio Editor" but when I preview or publish the narration sounds like it has an echo. I've tried recording in Articulate and Audacity and it always sounds great until I preview or publish.
When I recorded in audactiy I published it as a WAV file as recommended and it sounds great every time except for when I preview or publish. Any ideas on what could be happening in publishing that is causing the echo?

Hey Joe -
Try this out: http://www.articulate.com/support/kb/002521.php
I just talked with someone the other day who experienced that. Turned out one of the layer names (PowerPoint > Home > Select > Selection Pane) had some special characters in it. After we found and removed the special characters, everything played well. Hopefully that works for you!

Thanks David. I'm having the problem in Quizmaker so I'm not sure if it's the same issue. I don't have any xml file or any way that I can think of to edit the layer names. I'll keep trying...
Oh, so the audio is overlapping even when you publish Quizmaker by itself? In the case of the other issue, quizzes would also contain overlapping audio but the special characters in the PowerPoint file were affecting random slides.
Just to clarify then, your standalone, published Quizmaker files contain overlapping audio?
Yes, the published quizmaker files contain overlapping audio. I'm stumped...
Couple things you could try:
Deleting audio and publishing. Is there still overlapping audio?
Create a new quiz and record audio into the recorder and publish. How does that work?
Import another audio file. It's possible the file is wonky.
Publish Quizmaker to LMS, CDRom to see if same result occurs.
Can you post the file? or email it to me? I'm happy to take a look at it.
Okay, figured it out. Stupid mistake. I am only hearing the echo with a headset I am using. When I unplug the headset and listen through normal speakers it sounds great. Sorry to waste your time.
Hi Joe,
Thanks for letting us know that you were able to figure it out!
I had an echo in Quizmaker too. When I viewed the slide with audio in the slide view, I noticed two "loudspeaker" icons to the left of the slide, suggesting that two sound files were attached to the slide. I played each one and discovered that Quizmaker had saved two versions of my recording (I know I recorded the same narration twice to get it right). I deleted the extra icon -- and that deleted the extra sound file that was causing the echo.
Hi!
Have echo effect in Presenter'09. It's look like the same file is run every minute
I inserted webobj with swf animation in pptx (SWF with voice). When launch swf-file voice sound good. But in published course slide with webobj inserted has echo. How can I fix it?
p.s. tried to insert swf file in SL (trial version). All work well.
Good morning Maxim,
How are you viewing the published content? Are you uploading it to a web server, LMS, etc.? If so, can you share a link to the published presentation, so I can take a look and see if I hear the echo as well?
Thanks!
Christine
Christine, tested it in SCORM Cloud. Here is link: https://cloud.scorm.com/sc/guest/PostInvitation?userInvitationId=13256016-ce55-4424-81ca-72a34bc130de
interesting: course in chrome works well, in IE has echo.
Good morning Maxim,
Thanks for getting back to me. SCORM Cloud is great for testing, but it's not intended for hosting. I hear the audio fine in Chrome, but none in IE. Where do you intend on publishing the finished project (LMS, web server)? That's where you should be testing the content, if possible. If you don't have access to an LMS or web server, you might want to try using Articulate Online. You can use the service free for 30 days with the trial that's available. That should give you enough time to test this presentation's audio.
Tested on client's LMS. The same issue. Audio is fine in Chrome. Echo is in IE.
