Cannot open (upgrade) quiz file...

Jun 17, 2014

Hi.

I am working on translating e-learning modules that our headquarter created.

When I tried to open a quiz file,

I got message saying "This quiz is from an earlier version of Quizmaker. Would you like to convert it now? A backup will be created of the original file."

Clicked "Yes"

Then, I got an error message saying "there was an error upgrading this quiz", and can not do anything.

How can I solve this??

Hi Hitoshi,

Sorry to hear about the trouble!

Please make sure that you're working with local project files:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If you are working with a local quiz that you're trying to upgrade and still see this message, please share the .quiz file here. Just keep in mind that the max file size is 20MB on the forums. If the file is larger that that, please let me know and we'll look into sharing the file elsewhere.

Best,

Christine

Hi Christine,

Thanks, I got it!

I have kept the quiz data in the folder that is located on DESKTOP, so I thought "the data is already on Drive C!".

But I tried tomove the data file itself to DESKTOP from the folder, then I could open it!
What's going on!?  Is it a Bug?

Anyway, thank you for your prompt support, Christine!

Regards,

Hitoshi
