Cannot verify branching functionality in Quizmaker 13
Dec 28, 2015
After scouring the discussions I've found a couple threads similar to my problem, but all are fairly old; so, I'm broaching the topic again.
I have a math quiz that offers the learner the choice of taking the quiz using English units or Metric units. The two quizzes are segregated into separate question groups, and the users choose the desired units of measure via a "Pick One" question in a third question group. This question branches to the appropriate question group based on the choice selected.
THE ISSUE: Regardless of which choice is selected, the quiz always defaults to Question Group 1. This behavior occurs in Quizmaker Preview and in the published course (I have not published to the LMS. In the past [i.e. Presenter '09] I've been able to successfully test brachning in this manner).
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Emmett

Hi Emmett!
Here's how to choose feedback and branching options in Articulate Quizmaker '13.
Would you be able to share your .quiz file so that we could take a peek at your setup?
Hi Leslie
Attached please find my Quizmaker file.
Thank you for your assistance.
Emmett
Hi Emmett!
Thank you for sharing your file. I am able to see the behavior that you are reporting and even with playing around with some settings cannot get it to work as you wish.
Have you attempted to start a new file to see if you are able to replicate the behavior? Was this an upgraded file? Just trying to understand the scenario.
I was about to submit to our QA Team to review and decided to build my own course, and I am unable to replicate the behavior that you are reporting at the most basic level.
My test file is attached and it branches as expected, even with the multiple groups.
Leslie
This is a new quiz I created by importing the two question groups into a new file and then adding a new “selection” question group. The original file, however, was upgraded from Studio ’09 to Studio ’13, so the “quirk” may have migrated with the file.
I will re-create the quiz from scratch this morning and see if the issue persists.
Thank your for the feedback.
Regards,
Emmett Durham
No problem Emmett, just let me know if I can further assist.
Also, please note, that responding to the forums via e-mail attaches your signature and you are welcome to pop in and edit if needed.

Hi Emmett!
We are aware, and it has been shared with our QA Team, of an issue with locking questions if there are more than two question groups.
I do not have an update to provide at this time.
I will add this thread so that our QA Team is aware of users impacted and so that we can update this thread when applicable.
Hi Leslie
Has there been any progress on this issue since my last inquiry?
Thank you,
Emmett
Hi Emmett! I popped in to take a look and this is still in the hands of our QA Team, so I do not have an update to provide unfortunately.
Dear
I'm having the same issue, is this fixed yet ?
I appreciate you sharing the file Katrienje. Could you specify the issue that you are having vs what you expect to happen and perhaps tell me how to replicate. That would be helpful.
I cannot specify branching to a question group, he always set's it back to the first question group
You can try with the example I've uploaded erlier.
Best regards
Hi Katrientje!
When I take a look at the quiz, I am able to choose any of the branches you have specified and it performs as expected.
You can check my published output here:
https://cloud.scorm.com/sc/InvitationConfirmEmail?publicInvitationId=e934711f-bef6-4658-9452-186abca05bd7
It worked with me also in a previous version, but when I did an update of Articulate I am able to choose it, but he doesn't remember it
I will show you in the video I attached
So your issue is with the project file holding the data? Is it working in your published output as well? Did you take a look at the file I shared above?
Hey
Yes,I took a look at the file you published, thank you for that.
It doens't work in my published version.
How can I provide you my published version ?
Do you have a link to the published version that I can access? If not, you could share the published zipped output for me to upload and test.
Are you on the latest version of Quizmaker, which is Update 7?
I have version 7,
It's very strange because with a previous course it worked.
Can you please try to select NL, then you will see that the course doesn't stop when the question group of NL is finished.
I get the same results Katrientje.
Here is the published output:

Have you tested in SCORM Cloud as well or is the issue only occurring in your LMS? If limited to your LMS, then I would advise you follow up with them.
I've revealed in previous posts that I am having similar problems in Quizmaker in Articulate 13. I am using a branching question as a method for the user to select between a question group with metric math questions and one with English/Imperial units questions. The branching always selects the first group. I sent a file to E-Learning Heroes and the staff there could not replicate the problem (it works for them). A second issue is that questions anchored to the top and bottom of the question groups will not stay anchored, therefore the number of questions for the quiz cannot be stabilized.
I did not have these problems in Studio '09.
The thread I engaged regarding these issues was about 4 to 6 months old when I joined. That was at least two months ago. E-Learning Heroes says it's a known issue that's being worked.
This is a very unusual experience for me with an Articulate product. My project is at a standstill because of this. Is there any remedy in the foreseeable future?
Thank you.

Hi Emmett - Yes, this is the same thread where the conversation with you took place. The branching issue that you mentioned was the one I could not replicate in a new file. It looks like I never heard from you in regards to if you were able to replicate the behavior. The issue that was filed with our QA Team was in regard to the locking of questions within groups - as it does not work as expected with more than one group - and this is still in the hands of our QA Team.
The only workaround we are aware of is to place the 'locked' questions in their own question group and place before the question group needed. This will simulate the locked questions.
From our team: Create a new question group for each intro slide, and put the new group immediately before the group of questions it's meant to introduce.
I also wanted to mention that replying to the forums via e-mail attaches your signature. You are welcome to pop in and edit if needed.
Hi Emmet, thank's for your reply
My project is also on hold according to this issue...
The only thing I can do at this moment is creating separate Elearnings per language.
It creates 3 times the work and follow up for me.
I also received a post on another issue that the solution is to buy Atriculate Storyline, but an upgrade from Studio 13 to Storyline is not possible, strange.
Hi Katrientje!
This thread started with a similar request from Emmett, which is how I imagined you arrived here to post. I was able to see the issue he was reporting, but unable to re-create. The issue that has been filed with our QA Team was a subsequent issue related to locking questions within a question group, and not the branching.
It seems you had no issue with my file, and I was unable to see the issue even with your zipped output loaded to SCORM Cloud.
As I mentioned above, if the issue is only occurring within your LMS and we cannot replicate in SCORM Cloud, you may need to follow up with your LMS team.
In regards to the response here, typically complex branching and navigation does perform better in Storyline and I believe it was simply an invite to explore if needed. Studio works well with a linear course structure, but again, your course seems to be performing as expected when testing. We just need to understand where the issue may lie :)
