FITB seems to be an appropriate model to use for approx 10-15 simple interactions in a new course we're building. All we need is a sentence or two of text with a gap for the input somewhere in that piece. However, the input box doesn't work if placed on top of the text - it only works when positioned elsewhere on the slide. Hence the effect isn't going to work.
Is there a way around this?
Thanks
PS creating background images with the text already embedded might be an option - but it's going to be a more lengthy process particularly if text needs editing time to time;
Hello Simon - in Slide View, if you select the textbox (which contains the gap) and use the Send to Back option on the Format tab, this should allow the FITB input box to be accessible by your learners, because then it will be on the top layer of the slide. Does that help?
I figured that would work too until I tried it ... and realised it didn't. Strangely I can drag the input box anywhere to the left/right/above/below the text and it's fine. But as soon as it touches the text in any way then it just won't accept any entry.
That's strange! I'm not able to reproduce the problem... if you like, you could attach the .quiz file (or just a file containing a sample question) here and I could take a look? Or you could submit a support case so we can troubleshoot.
Its rare you find a question that stumps jeanette. I think the textbox you refer to is the question textbox this will always default to above the input box, even if you send it back on publish it jumps back up.
Best solution is to insert a textbox and these can be sent behind
Ha, Simon trust me, I know from reading your E-Learning Heroes posts here that you are ANYTHING but an idiot, lol! Interestingly, in playing around with a practice file a little bit ago, I did notice that if you move the FITB box on top of a regular textbox, everything behaves as expected, but if you move it over top of the the actual question text (i.e., the question text that you entered in Form View), then sometimes it does change the layering order such that the question is on the top layer rather than the input box. When that happened, it did still allow me to switch the layering back to what I wanted, but I wonder if that was the source of the odd behavior you were seeing earlier.
In any case, glad to hear you've got things working the way you want.

Hi Jeanette

Thanks anyway

I guess I'm in idiot mode today because I tried again this afternoon and it worked. Must pay more attention to what I'm doing (or not doing).
Cheers
