Hover state in answers is always only 3 lines high

Sep 16, 2015

I've got a quiz with a range of text multiple choice questions that are between 1-5 lines long each.  When you roll over (hover) over them the blue hover box is only 3 lines high and so cuts off the text above and below.

I've made fonts smaller, boxes bigger, tinkered with Master style etc but it still isn't right.

I see in other threads that you can't turn the hover off- but surely there's an easy way to make sure the text fits!

Thanks!

Hi, David -- Thanks for the screenshot and for your question! That does seem peculiar, so would you mind providing your file so that we can give it a closer look, please? In a test file, I did not see the same behavior (see below).

Will you please confirm that you are working locally as described here? It may also be helpful to try importing the file into a new file. If you are still having issues, you might want to try to repair Storyline.

Hope that helps, David! :)

We ended up rebuilding from scratch using master templates and never trying
to resize anything in slide view- do all editing in the question view.
This seems like a crazy limitation but after many fruitless hours
tinkering, this model has proven robust,

It wasn't exactly that the hover state was always 3 lines- but that it
didn't match the non-hover size so there was always an ugly jump and the
blue box didn't match the text.

I assume this will be logged as a bug and whenever we get a new release of
Quizmaker it will be fixed but for now the only solution for us was to
start again with master slides.

Hi David,

Thanks for popping back in here to update Andrea. It seems that Karla wasn't able to replicate it based on the steps you shared with her as a part of your support case and she was able to easily rebuild your question so I don't see that it was logged as a bug. If you're still experiencing this and think it's a bug, we'd be happy to investigate further and we'd want to know the steps you're going through to set up these questions to see the odd hover behavior. You can share it here or respond to your previous emails with Karla to reopen the case.

Hi Ashley,

I didn't want to have to rebuild all the questions, but it looks like that is the only fix at this point. I don't recall doing anything odd with the questions, but I did notice it especially on questions with long stems where I moved the answer box down to handle the longer prompt. It appears that the hover is "remembering" where the answer box used to be rather than its new location. It is also prevalent on longer answer choices.

I will use the master templates and try not to move the answer choices in slide mode, but it seems that slide mode should flawlessly allow you to move content, so that is a frustrating option. I don't want to post my quiz here, but if you need to see the issue in action and want me to send the files, please email me. Thanks for the feedback Ashley and David.

Regards,

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

We're always happy to take a look at the file, and if you're able to share it privately with our Support team you can send it along here.  I typically let the slide handle the location and elements, but were your answers not wrapping is that why you're changing the answer box? I've seen that cause issues when an author moves them around and then they are still set to shuffle as it's defaulting to where it expected them to be and some overlapping has occurred.

If you choose to send it in, let us know and we'll follow along in your case as well.

I'm still experiencing this same problem in Quizmaker. Answer options jump to 3 lines on hover but there isn't a way to edit the states. If the only way for that not to happen is to only edit the text in question (form) view rather than slide view, I'm thinking that editing text in slide view should not be an option. Am I missing something or is this still a bug?
