How apply a setting of one single slide into all the slides?

Aug 07, 2011

Actually this bothered me for a long time since my first time using quizmaker.

Like say, now I accomplished one single slide for a question,

I set the sizes of words, arrangement of every text box and what they look like in slide mode,

and I want the setting applying to all my other question slides, how can I do for achieving this?

My current solution is copy the previous question slide and replace the questions and answers as the next question, Q1 Q2 Q3 and so on. But it's not so convenient anyway and, if I want to adjust the original setting, thus means I have to edit all the questions in slide mode one by one, and that's quite a disturbance.

And here's another question: can I define the awarded points in decimal representation?

Such like 2.6 points per question.

 Appreciate the help, thanks~!

Hello Yu-Chieh. Have you tried using the slide masters in Quizmaker to control the way your text looks? When you begin a new quiz, try this: create a question and go to Slide View. Then click View > Slide Master. There, you can customize a slide master by setting the the font, size, color, etc. of your question text and answer text. Right-click the slide master's thumbnail and rename it so that you can easily refer to it later.

Now, when you go to the Slide View of any question, you can click the Design tab and find the new slide master there. (Hover over the thumbnails to see the Slide Master's name.) You can right-click any slide master and then choose Apply To This Question or Apply to All Questions.

Regarding your question about scoring:  currently in Quizmaker, the point values can only be assigned whole numbers (not decimals). However, to make the math work you could certainly adjust the points awarded by multiplying each by 10. You could make this change fairly quickly if your questions are scored By Answer (that is, if each question awards a certain number of points for the correct answer, an 0 points for an incorrect answer). In the question list, you can edit the Points column directly, rather than opening up each question and making the change within the question editor:

(If you're scoring your questions By Answer, though - where each answer earns a specific number of points - you'd need to open the question editor and modify the scoring on each.)

Hi Jeanette,

Thanks your slide master tutorial! It did a great help.

I tried slide master function,

looks like the position of the questions and choices can not apply to other slides,

or do I miss something that couldn't work out the result?

About the scoring, hmm, like say there's a  test consists of 45 questions and the total score is 120,

then I have to define the score of each question is 2.67 or so.

Of course the issue would be simple if I reduce the questions down to 40,

but that's what the original test designer defined, so it's unlikely to make a change.

Perhaps integrate with other  editing software is a possible solution? Thanks!

Right, currently in Quizmaker, the location/placement of question/answer placeholders on your slide masters is not something that will carry over to your quiz slides. Their text attributes, however, will.

Regarding scoring: can you say a little more about how the value of 120 points is being used or displayed to the learner? Is it important that the learner knows the specific point value of each question and the quiz overall, or is it enough that they know each question is weighted equally? You could possibly just eliminate the point references on the quiz player and on the result slides, and display just a percentage correct at the end. Unfortunately there isn't really any way to use an outside editing tool to force a decimal value for the individual questions.

Hi Jeanette,

sorry for the late reply,

I've been busy at work and sometimes not available to be here. :(

regarding the slide setting:

thanks for your answering,

I think it would be nice if the location/placement of questions and answers could be carried as one of the settings in slide master,

especially when editing a great amount of questions at a time.

And about the scoring,

yes, actually, it is an official English test, so it is necessary to let people know the exact score they get in the whole test.

That's why the decimal point is so necessary.

Here's one thing that might help when you're creating your quizzes: if your questions are all (or mostly) of a certain question type (such as multiple choice), you could design one question that looks the way you want, as far as the placement of the slide elements, and then copy it for each question. Then all you would need to do is customize the question & answer text for each one; you wouldn't need to repeat the steps of resizing/rearranging the various slide elements each time.
