How can i insert a link to open (popup) a pdf
Mar 20, 2013
Hi, some of the quiz questions I have to develop require the student to click on a link (graphic image) to open a .pdf of a technical document that they need to use to answer the question.
I'm only seeing add/insert options for graphic or movie. So I made a Flash movie of the button to click that includes the code to open the pdf, and it is doing something - but not what I want. It is opening a browser window with the title of the pdf as the search item... as if it is searching for that document on the internet? instead of opening it in Adobe Acrobat.
Do you have any idea to help?
Thank you,

Hi Lisa,
Here is one way to accomplish what you have described above if you are loading the course into an LMS. Upload the pdf to an adminstrative storage area of your LMS. When you open the pdf to verify it works jot down the link address that the system has created.
Then back to your quiz. Go to your quiz question, insert a photo. Then right click the photo to add a hyperlink. Enter the address of the pdf you want to display. Check the link, then save the question and publish the quiz.
This worked for me so I am hopeful it will work for you.

Thank you Barbara - that works. It works for publishing to CD as well. I put the resource document in the 'quiz_content' folder after publishing and make sure the hyperlink is pointed to that folder.
I had not explored the 'slide view' of the quiz questions before and I see now there is so much flexibility there.
Thanks again!
Hi Lisa,
I am happy you were able to get it to work for your course and yes, viewing the slide view of quizzes and surveys opens a lot more options.
