Multiple Response Question with 'Select at least...'

Aug 26, 2020

Hello everyone,

i'm trying to create a quiz question where there are multiple correct answers.  in this case there are 8-9 possible correct answers.  It's not necessary that learners can identify all of them at once, but I want them to be able to demonstrate sufficient understanding of the concept to be able to identify at least half of the correct choices.

Is there a way to set up a multiple response question, identifying all of the potential correct answers that they could choose, but only requiring the learner to select a minimum of 4 or 5 to get a 'correct' response and passing score on the question?

thanks for your help

I assume that you are talking about a multiple select question.

Yes, it can be done, You have to get creative with the way that the multiple choice question is set up. What about if the user selects an incorrect choice. Does that make the question incorrect?

The way multiple selection questions work, the student has to select exactly the correct item, and none of the incorrect selections. So the end result is you have to set the actual question up so this condition is met, even if the participant is presented with something different. If you can detail exactly how you want it to work I could set up an example for you.

Thanks Dave, yes what you've described for a multiple selection question is what i'm trying to achieve, I just can't figure out how to set it up.  Here's an example:

Name at least 3 colors of the rainbow:

Correct Choices: Red; Orange; Yellow; Green; Blue; Indigo, Violet (all entered as separate options)

Incorrect Choices: Brown; Black; White (all entered as separate options)

If the learner selects any 3 or more of the first (correct) group and none of the second (incorrect) group, they would get a pass for the question.  If the learner selects any of the second group, and/or less than 3 of the first group, they would not get a pass for the question.

But I can't figure out how to set up the multiple selection so that it will give them a pass if they don't select all of the 'correct' options I have identified.
