Hi. I've seen a lot of postings going the other direction (Engage into Presenter), but I want to show a short slideshow created in Presenter from an Engage FAQ interaction.
I've tried all the different publishing options, but seem to get HTML or some other file format that Engage doesn't recognize as video. Thoughts? Thank you.
Good question! I've actually never tried this and I haven't seen this come up before.
Engage supports the following movie file types:
Movies:
.FLV
.SWF
H.264 encoded .MP4
How are you recording the video? What file type is the video?
Also, I'm a little confused by your last statement - are you saying you're publishing the Presenter files as HTML, or the Engage interaction? If you've already used a supported file type for the video and inserted it, make sure you're not viewing the published Engage interaction locally. Try uploading it to a web server or LMS first.
If you can give me a little more information on this, maybe we can figure out what's happening
Hi. Sorry if I didn't explain it well. I have a 2-slide PPT that I published with Articulate Presenter. I've tried publishing as web, online, lms, and CD versions thinking one of them would be in a video-type format that can be viewed from Engage. Guess not?
No problem! That's why I'm here, to be inquisitive
You're correct, publishing a Presenter file won't give you a video format that you can use to insert into Engage. What you'd need to do is create a video from the presentation - probably with a third party video program.
A little curious if this would be the best option for you, though. Is there a specific need to keep the content in Engage? Also, does the content need to be in a video? If there's only 2 slides and there's no interactions, you could just take screenshots of the slides and insert them as images. But, it depends on your plans for the interaction so I'm not sure how that would work for you.
I thought I would just keep the images, but within a single topic, I wanted multiple images. It seemed I could only upload a single image, so without creating a monster-sized combination via Photoshop, I started to wonder about a video file instead. I'm on Engage '09...perhaps now they allow multiple images to be uploaded, but I can't find how to get more than one with this version.
Ahh ok, I agree with you. Video would be a better option and it would (visually) probably be more appealing to users that view the course. Do you have access to any type of recording software? Or do you have any other designers or course developers working with you that may be able to create this type of video?
There's a ton of free video recording software out there. Just keep in mind the file formats that are supported, not all of them may be able to create the video in supported formats. This isn't something I've worked with closely, but I know a lot of our community members have. You may also want to ask for some suggestions over in our Building Better Courses section.
In the meantime, hopefully some of our talented video gurus can chime in here and give some tips, as well!
If you find any additional information, please share
It will work for any single slide, presenter publishes each slide separately as a Swf, it is possible to insert that into engage. But you can only insert one Swf into one section in engage. If you want both you will need to rebuild it all on one slide.
Ah ok, thanks That's what I was thinking you meant - but the issue with that is multiple videos/multiple images, which I believe she's trying to avoid.
However, it certainly may be something Mina can consider. Thanks very much for sharing!

You can export PowerPoint as a video and import to engage or publish and import as a Swf (this will only work for be slide)
For which slide, Phil?

you export more than one slide as a video though

Saving as a video in ppt could then be inserted into engage this would be a single file
Thank you both. I'll do some more investigation on the video front.
