Quiz not displaying results

Feb 11, 2013

I've been handed a Articulate Studio developed training package to complete.  There is a quiz component where upon completion, prompts the user to input their name and once submitted, takes the user to a web page that should be displaying the quiz results to be printed as evidence of completion.

The Quiz is not displaying the results within the web page.  What's gone wrong and how do I fix it?

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Carmen!

It sounds like you may be talking about the quiz results slide from the quiz itself, but I just want to make sure. Was the presentation moving to this slide, originally?

Also, are you able to open the Quizmaker file through Presenter to check the settings for the review slide? To do so, navigate to the slide in Presenter that contains the quiz. Click on the "Edit in Quizmaker" button. Once you're in Quizmaker, you can check the options under "Pass result" and "Fail result". Here you'll be able to check to see if the print option is enabled.

Now, if you're wanting the "Finish" button to direct the user to an external website, you'll want to make this change in Presenter. Return to Presenter and click on the "Properties" button on the quiz slide. When you select the quiz, you'll see options toward the bottom that enable you to specify what happens when the user clicks the "Finish" button.

If this isn't what you're trying to do, please share a little more information about what's happening with the presentation.

Thanks!

Hi Christine

Many thanks for your quick response!  Upon further investigation the issue is not within a quiz but rather a survey (same same but different).  I have checked the properties and the survey result settings have the following items ticked:

Display survey result slide

Allow user to review quiz

Allow user to print results

Prompt the user for their name before printing

Close browser window

The only thing displaying when you click on the Print Responses button is a table with Date/Time generated to a temp report.html page.

The survey hosts a total of 15 questions with a combo of  'pick many' and  'quick answers' . The survey is hosted on the second last slide (last slide hosts author and contact details).  The nature of the content is "Introduction to Design and Use of Computer Workstations - A self assessment checklist".  The survey is intended as evidence of completion and can be supplied to local OHS units (to progress new chair requirements etc).  There are no other functional issues with the training package.

Looking forward to your response

Good morning Carmen!

Thank you very much for the additional information! So, it sounds like you'd like to display the actual survey content on the report. If you select the option to print your results, then save the results as an html file to your local drive, and only see the Date/Time header when viewing the results in Internet Explorer, then you are seeing a limitation of IE with dynamically generated content.

IE will not save the generated HTML to disk, only the original script used to generate the HTML. As a result there will be no quiz data to display.

Print results feature will work as expected when the end-user prints the results to a printer. To test this, try uploading the course to a web server or LMS, if possible. Or, if you'd like, you're welcome to share a Presenter Package  or the .QUIZ file here and I'd be happy to test it. However, keep in mind that if the file is too large, it may not post. If that's the case, or if you need to keep the content confidential, you're welcome to send it to us privately in a support case

Thanks!.

Good Morning Christine

Although new to e-learning authoring tools, my background is web development.

If there is a limitation of IE with dynamically generated content (results not displaying) or an issue with the variables not being passed to the temp generated html page, would this issue be resolved if I import the package into Articulate Storyline???

What is your recommendation for operating system requirements to enable optimal functionality of the print Quiz results?

Will Articulate look at the possibility of introducing a print/write results to PDF option?

This is not my first encounter with this issue (we have several Articulate training packages).   I'm considering eliminating the print results option altogether, and just utilize the quiz feature as a learning object and not as a method of evidence of completion (moving to an LMS will eliminate this requirement).  Your thoughts?

Christine Hendrickson

Carmen,

The limitation with IE is if the content is viewed locally. These limitations do not only apply to Internet Explorer, they can occur with the other web browsers as well. Have you had the chance to test the content after it's been uploaded? Again, we'd be happy to take a look at this and test it for you, if you do not have access to a web server or LMS (but if your background is in web development, I'm sure that's not the case ).

I think the confusion that's occurring here can be answered with one question: Are you testing this locally? You mentioned you've experienced this many times in the past, so I just want to confirm this. If you're not testing this locally and seeing this, can you share a URL for the published and uploaded content? Maybe I can do some browser testing on my end, though I'm sure you've done the same, it couldn't hurt to have another set of eyes to take a look at it.

I'm afraid I'm not a developer, so I wouldn't be able to answer your question about plans for PDF exporting. However, you are welcome to send a request directly to our development team

Thanks Carmen!
