Quiz won't publish in Presenter

Sep 08, 2011

I have a course completed, with a 10-question quiz at the end.  When I publish in Presenter 09, the three Engage slides publish fine but the quiz is a blank screen with a twirling cursor, like it is looking for the file.

I have also opened the Quiz from the file and published it from there, selecting "insert as slide in PPT"...the one I have open, which is PT 2010. The dialogue box indocates it published successfully and will appear when I publish the program in Presenter.

But the same thing happens when I publish in Presenter. The box indcates it is updating the quiz but the Engage slides work and the quiz keeps spinning the cursor.

Am I dong something wrong? What can I check to see what the problem is?

I am now opening a new Quizmaker quiz and importing the same questions into it. I will publish tha to Presenter and se if it works. Meanwhile, has this happened to anyone else and if so, why?

Thanks.

Thanks Brian- I checked and my files are all where they are supposed to be.  I did as suggested in the link and removed the quiz and reinserted. I even created a brand new short quiz and tried that. All of the quizzes I have tried have worked fine in the Preview mode. But when I publish them to Presenter, I can see it checking the items on every other slide as they progress, but when the quiz slide comes up, the progress bar just speeds right by and obviously is not picking up the components. Every time, I have had a spinning cursor and nothing else for the quiz slide once the course is published. The Engage slides are all still working fine and publish every time.

I am now running a "re-install" of Presenter in an attempt to repair whatever may be wrong.

I completed the course last evening have been trying to succesfully publish it all day, which is now a full eight hours. If you have any other ideas, please send them my way.

Thanks-

Jon

Hi Jon,

Would you mind submitting a support case so that we can take a closer look at the issue?

Please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:

Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:

I'll upload the package. I was just doing that when my router suddenly disconnected me from the Internet. It's just that kind of day.

I realized a couple of hours ago that my quiz name had both an ampersand and parentheses in it...I have no idea why I did that but assumed that was the problem. I tried changing the name and also made two new quizzes, one by importing the same questions under a clean name and the other with only a few new questions and none from the original quiz. Neither published.

I just downloaded update 8 and reinstalled Articulate Pro 09 and will try to publish again. Meanwhile, the package will be on its way in a minute.

My file seems to be huge...106 MB. t took 15 minutes to upload and after 30 more, is stll not processed by your server. AND, I failed to include the url or my versions....Pro 09 and Office 2010. My bad, there. I didn't read the entire email. I am pretty frustrated by now. My apologies. I hope it processes all right.

Thanks. I got an email from them last night when I was still wresling with the problem. They asked me to send a screen shot of any error messages I'd gotten but I had never had any. THEN...the breakthrough! I tried to publish just the quiz and got a pop-up error message that the destination file contained too many characters. I sent it in and this morning, the team had the same response I had thought of. I had buried the quiz file in a folder too many levels down and that was why it wouldn't publish. I never got the error message, however, when publishing to Presenter, jus when I tried to publish the quiz alone. The Presenter message always said it was successfully published. I don't think it should have said tha because it did go past the quiz slide but didn't process any information from it. Apparently Presenter didn't realize there was a problem and that it couldn't locate the file during publishing.

I just published it and everything seems fine except that the url that is set for the passing score isn't working. It works when I set it up and used the 'try url" button but when it is all  published, nothing happens when I pass the test and  click on "finish."

Thanks so much for all your help...you and the support team who emailed me.

Do you have any ideas why the url won't work? I tried it with and without the http://

Jon DeMartino

I disabled the pop-up blocker. It still doesn't go anywhere. It's like the "finish" button is connected to nothing.

I wasn't getting a pop-up warning or anything. Just nothing happened when I passed the test and clicked on "finish."

So I set up a short quiz in Quizmaker, set it so the passing score finish button went to the same url and published it, to find out of my original file was corrupt. Again, the finish button didn't go anywhere when published.(They both work, the bigger quiz I made and this little quiz) when I do the "try it" button when setting the link up for the passing score in Quizmaker.

I also make a PowerPoint slide with a hyperlink to the same site as I used in the Articulate products. I played it as a slideshow and the link worked fine.

I need this to work because the url will take the user to the client's website to print a certificate.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "link to the content."  What is that?

If I remove most of the slides to reduce the size and then create an Articulate package that includes a few slides and the quiz, will that do? I assume you want to see the actual working format and not how it looks when published. I could probably zip the packageand send it to you in an email or via YouSendIt, couldn't I?
