Quizmaker - Duplication of Questions when returning to Quiz

Mar 25, 2013

Hello,

We currently use SumTotal Systems as our LMS provider and we have certain amount of on-line exams and quizzes that we strictly use for knowledge validation.

It has come to our knowledge, whom our Data Statistician has recently discovered that when pulling out assessment type Reports from the LMS, certain 'Learners' had a duplication of questions and results.

I brought this case up with SumTotal, who had looked into the issue and discovered that the user had exited the exam 9 times and re-launched in 9 separate times. Upon re-launching it is assumed that the 'Learner' was re-asking a certain amount of questions, hence the duplication of responses.

For our quiz itself, we have 90-100 questions per exam, in-which we use every single question, however the questions are randomized. We do allow our users to exit the exam and come back to it at a later time.

Thus, the anomaly that we believe is the issue. It appears that the user begins the exam, answer say 25 questions, then exits. When the user returns he answers 5 more questions, 1 perhaps is a question he was asked in his previous attempt. The user exits.

The user returns and exits 7 more times, with each time, he is being asked a question he previously answered in one of his previous attempts.

Hence the issue: If there are 100 questions being asked, with a pool of only 100 questions, where the user’s needs to answer 100 questions; each question being submitted prior to moving on. It appears that the QUIZ itself is keeping the progress/ time and score, however the QUIZ is not keeping track of which questions it has asked.

I do not think that this is normal behaviour for the quiz to do, thus need some verification as how do we move forth to correct this, either on our side, if the fault does lye with us, or is this a fault with Quizmaker itself?

Thanks,

Thanks for posting, Matt.

I agree this is problematic behavior. Before we move on with troubleshooting, would you mind testing your course in SCORM Cloud to help us determine if the issue is Articulate-related or if it's on your LMS's side? If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team. The articles here and here may also help clear up common LMS issues.

Thanks, Matt.
