I'm not sure what may have happened with your particular project, but to prevent corruption in the future:
Be sure you're working on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources.
I, too, am having the same issue. An older version of the SAME QM file opens fine. updates were done to the file and now it won't open. I am running on my C drive - not on a network or USB (who does that anyway?) Others on our team can open it just fine. We all have the same version of QM. I uninstalled and reinstalled QM - THREE times. I've tried opening FROM the program and opening it OUTSIDE the program. Now what?
Have any of your colleagues tried to save it as a new version and share that one back with you? The previous message above was associated with a Quizmaker 13 file - is that what you're using or are you using Quizmaker 09?
We are all updated on Studio '13. I have uninstalled and installed the whole Studio - twice. No change. However, once others ran the "Check for updates" and installed the newest, then their file worked.
