508 Compliance

Jun 20, 2014

Hello!

We are required to make our Storyline courses 508 compliant, and I am struggling with how to do so.  I understand that I cannot use drag-and-drop or hotspot interactions.  But, if I use/build other interactions, how can I add in the ability to navigate using the keyboard?

Thank you!

Hi Erika,

Here are a couple of good starting points:

Objects should have the accessibility flag turned on by default.  So, for example, using the tab key, you'll see objects highlighted with a yellow frame. Pressing the space bar will activate the object's trigger.

If you'd rather activate objects using a keyboard command like A, B, C or 1, 2, 3 - you'd need to build that into your question. So, for example, if you built a question with a particular pattern of keyboard command, you'd want to copy and paste this question within your bank or scene to copy over the work, then change the question.

You can add keyboard triggers to the master slide if you'd like to control forward and back with the arrow keys. Other accessibility features require some level of development effort.
