Access module in two sittings

Mar 09, 2015

Hello,

We are developing e-learning modules for doctors who don't have time to go through one module in one sitting. It will require them to do the modules in two sittings.

What should I do so the computer remembers my answers to the quizzes in the first sittings and saves them. At the moment, when I print out my result slide, I have answers to quizzes from the first sitting only.

Thank you

Strange, I thought SCORM stuff was supposed to hold this data by default, so, when you use the 'resume from saved state' options in Storyline, it would return to where you were before.

Have you tried making sure your slides have resume saved state selected? You can also tell your LMS not to start a new attempt every time (possibly, though I don't know what LMS you are using so.)

Hi Beata,

When you say modules are these all within one Storyline file or separate files? You'll want to make sure as Midi mentioned that the slides are set to "resume saved state" and that you've enabled the resume behavior as described here to prompt or force the user to return to where they were.

Also where is the course hosted? If within an LMS you may want to check that there aren't any additional settings you'd need to include there.

Hi Beata,

I generally prefer to choose either resume or reset as opposed to letting Storyline decide what behavior to take with "automatically decide" but the different options will behave as follows:

  • Resume saved state: Use this option if you want the slide to always remember its previous state. In other words, this option lets learners pick up where they left off when they leave the slide and come back to it later.
  • Reset to initial state: Use this option if you want the slide to always reset to its initial state when learners return to it. It'll restart from the beginning of its timeline, and interactive objects will return to their initial states.
  • Automatically decide: This is the default option. It means Storyline will decide whether to resume or reset the slide based on the objects it contains. Here's the logic: If the slide has only simple objects and/or audio but no interactivity, Storyline resets the slide to the beginning of its timeline. However, if the slide contains interactive elements, such as buttons or other objects that have a visited/selected state, Storyline resumes the slide where it left off previously.

So based on what you're saying you have, you could use resume for quiz slides so that the user doesn't reanswer the questions and then reset for those slides with layers so that they'll return to the point where they can revisit the layers as well.

If you're still having difficulty with how these elements are scoring and tracking in AO we're happy to take a look at the course information itself. Can you connect with our support engineers here to share login information for your AO account (they'll share directions on how to set up an account for our team as an admin)?

Thank you Ashley for your answer.

I am already in contact with support engineers who are reviewing the Print
Result page.

*The Print Results page (not the Results Slide) only shows the question
that you have answered the second time you took the quiz.*

*The Print Results page issue is different and not related to the
properties of the slide.*

*I thought I will set the slide to "Reset to initial state" when we have
layers, including the hot tip, which appears as a symbol on the main slide
and is a layer.*

Hello,

I had a few cases:

Case #00481856:
Case #00481259: Re: Case #00477441: Re: Case #00468168:
Case #00477441

The questions are about
1) the print Result slide page. The program doesn't recognize the answers
to the quizzes when I do them in two sittings.
2) Hot tip on the slide. I think I will put "Sent to initial state" when I
have a hot tip in a slide.

Another question:

1) At the moment we are using Articulate Online to publish our project. We
would like another organization to become a publisher/administrator. Is it
possible although they don't have Articulate software? We would just add
them as a publisher/administrator.
2) In future - we are thinking of changing the publishing platform because
we can't afford Articulate Online. We have to send the modules to a certain
amount of GPs every month so they can access the modules. Would you
recommend us formats which are compatible with Articulate? E.g. Html
format? – Does the interactivity translate ?

thank you

Beata

Hi Beata,

Thanks for sharing your case number here and I can see that you're working with Jonathan on all of these cases with a few overlapping questions. I'll continue to defer to him as it looks like he's answered the majority of your questions regarding resuming the course and the print results feature.

In regards to your new questions, the new administrator/publisher would need Articulate software to actually create and publish courses - they won't be able to publish to AO without having the software installed. I'm not sure what AO plan you have in terms of the number of administrators, but you'll want to note that if you only have a basic plan it allows for one administrator. If you would like to change who that is, please follow the steps here. If you're not sure what your plan allows for, please feel free to connect with our Sales team here and they'll be able to double check that for you.

In regards to other hosting solutions, Articulate Online is the only one that we offer, but any LMS that is compliant with SCORM, AICC or Tin Can would work for hosting and tracking your course. If you don't need to track users completion or access of the course you could also look at hosting in a web server, and I'll defer to the community on specific recommendations of LMSs and web hosting solutions they enjoy.

Thank you very much Ashley.

I am still waiting for the answer about the Print results feature.

I thought that if we change the Articulate Online plan to "Business", then
we could have two administrators/publishers (one us, one another
organization which doesn't have Articulate storyline software. However, I
was wrong.

Hi Beata,

I see that Jonathan shared the set up in regards to the print results page with our QA team, and shared that the current workaround is to ensure that the users take the course in one sitting and then the print results will function as expected.

I don't have any additional update on this issue, but we'll be in touch once we have information to share.
