AMP, SharePoint, Security Settings, Ports

Oct 05, 2017

Hello!

I am working with a client which is driven by security. My team has developed content in Storyline which I now need to work offline on an iPad using AMP.

The good news – I can upload content (demo content) to my own website using FTP. I can then simply click on the link from an email / manually enter the url, and the pop up appears asking if I want to open content in AMP. I click - It’s all good and I can activate offline mode.

My clients' content cannot leave their network. I can publish the content to a SharePoint site which can then be accessed using VPN on an ipad with mobile device management activated. I can access the html5 version of the content. This is not an ideal solution though – it doesn’t look as nice in the browser window and (as these will be used with airplane mode active), someone will end up closing the window by mistake and the content is lost until re-connection.

When I load the Flash / AMP content to the SharePoint file – everything looks good – the alert appears asking if you would like to open in AMP... Then I get the error:

‘Cannot Access Content’

I have already searched the ‘standard’ response and checked the suggestions – none apply.

My question to the clever people on this forum! What actually happens when you click on the ‘open’ button at the top of Safari? How is data transferred into AMP?

The only port that can be opened to the SP site is a standard HTTPS request on port 443. The server logs show that no requests have come into this port which makes me think that the data is being accessed differently.

So – how does data get into AMP? Is data transferred from Safari into AMP? Does AMP try to access the content directly from the server? If so what port is used and is this a standard request type?

Lollipops and candy for anyone that can solve this… Or a scotch, if that’s more your thing?

Well... thanks for the overwhelming response...

For anyone in a similar situation:

  • Data is transferred from SharePoint directly to the AMP app (not from Safari to AMP)
  • If your SP site authenticates users, you will likely experience the same issue - there is no way to enter user credentials into the AMP app
  • Consider hosting your content on an area of SP which doesn’t have specific restrictions – and it might all just work fine...
