AODA WCAG Web Accessibility errors

Dec 10, 2020

I’m using a free plugin (site improve) to test my storyline courses for accessibility. I’m seeing the following error messages and wondered if anyone know what they are and/or how the error can be fixed in Storyline.

! “Aria-labelledby” has incorrect (ID) reference

1.1.1 Non-text content, 1.3.1 Info and Relationships, 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context), 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions, 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value

The WAI-ARIA ‘ari-labelleby’ attribute has a reference to an ID that does not exist or an ID that is no unique. Make sure the ID referred by ‘aria-labelledby’ exists on the page and that the referred ID is only used on one element on the same page.

<div> mobile-start-title

Label IDs

! Element ID is not unique

1.3.1 Info and Relationships, 4.1.1 Parsing

The ID used for an element on the page is also used for another element on the page. ID’s must be unique.

<div> Empty    #video-pen

! Invalid WAI-ARIA role, state or property
4.1.2 Name, Role, Value

A WAI-ARIA element contains roles, states or properties that are not allowed on this type of element. Check the W3C specifications for “Accessible Rich Internet Applications Suite” (WAI-ARIA) to see what is supported for this type of element.

Hi Shannon!

I'm happy to help! This post comes in perfect timing since we just shipped an update today for Storyline 360, including semantic formatting. This is a fancy term which means the text elements are labeled using HTML code. This should fix the error you see with labels.

Semantic formatting address 1.3.1 Info and Relationships, so please let me know if you run into any issues!

Our latest version is Storyline 360 (Build 3.47.23871.0).

Now all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app!
