Articulate Buttons Naming in Screen Reader

Mar 21, 2023

Hello,

I created a slide in Storyline that includes buttons that will be read aloud by a screen reader. Each button has Alt text within the focus order. When I use the screen reader, the storyline presents the button names as "Button" instead of the Alt text assigned to them. This is an issue that has happened in the past with previous projects.

Hi Ariauna!

Sorry to hear you've hit this roadblock, but I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot!

It sounds like you're having an issue getting a screen reader to dictate the custom alt text you've chosen for buttons in a Storyline 360 course.

Testing it out on my end I was unable to reproduce the problem. Using the JAWS screen reader (version 2023.2302.15 within Windows Parallels on a Mac M1) the custom alt text I entered for each button was dictated by the screen reader without issue. Everything worked normally! I recorded this video to show you my results.

Just some clarifying questions:

If you're able to share the troublesome .story file, that would be helpful! You can send it privately to us by using this link. We'll let you know what we find, and will delete it after troubleshooting!

Hope this helps! Thanks for reaching out!
