If you want to edit a SL2 created swf file in Flash, you need to decompile the swf into a ".fla" file. I use Trilix software that is around $80. Then you can just open the newly created ".fla" and work on it from there as if it were something you made in flash to begin with. Except you'll probably need to reorganize the decompiled file with labels and stuff in flash to more easily edit things.
It's less $ if you have a Mac for some reason. And if you look around for other decompilers you may find one cheaper. But this one works great and is easy to use!
The decompiler should extract the swf file to a fla file that you can then edit in Flash. What version of Flash do you have? Maybe it won't allow you to open it because the swf has functionality of a newer version. Can you post the decompiled file?
