Audio Tracks Not Loading or Inserting Anymore

Oct 04, 2017

I am part way through inserting audio (.wav files) into my SL360 course and have never had a problem in the past. However, this morning when I click 'Insert Audio from File...' and I select the track, the progress bar appears, and a line is added to the Timeline, but no audio track is REALLY there. It's blank (no waveform)! When I open the Audio Editor, not only is no track visible, but the software hangs and my only option is to end the SL360 task in the Task Editor in Windows.

Also,

  • When I try to Preview the slide, the slide plays as though there's no audio
  • I can save the course successfully.
  • I can play the track(s) with no problem in my Windows player.
  • I have tried shutting down and restarting - no change.
  • This audio track is not triggered by a Play Media trigger.
  • All tracks I have inserted on other slides show 'Loading audio...' message but never load!

I have attached a screenshot so you can see what the Timeline looks like.

Help I'm on a strict deadline and need to figure this out ASAP!

After trying to import into a new .story file, reverting to previous versions of the file and playing with Dropbox settings to ensure there wasn't any file locking happening due to synchronization...I broke down and uninstalled and reinstalled SL360.  Presto!  No more strange behaviour!  Next time I will do that first.

Now to recover the half day I've lost!

So glad to hear you are up and running again, Ruth! I hate that you lost a half day of work trying to solve the issue, but I'm happy you got it sorted. Repairing Storyline (like you did) is always a good first move, and these steps are helpful if the repair doesn't work.

You may want to bookmark those articles, in case you run into more wonky behavior in the future (crossing my fingers that you don't!). Thanks for popping back in to give us an update!
