Bolded text "floats" out of alignment?

Aug 04, 2015

Whenever I select a piece of text and bold it, the entire line EXCEPT for the bold text moves downward so it looks like the bolded text "jumps" and the line spacing is thrown off at the same time.

When I italicize a piece of text, the ENTIRE line including the italics moves down a tiny bit but it is much less noticeable than the bolding problem. I am not sure if that is normal but thought I would mention it just in case.

I am also having an issue where, within the text in a marker button, italicizing a word will make it larger without a change in font size. This does not happen in a regular text box. Interestingly, bolding any text within a marker button seems to work completely fine.

This floating bold text is a HUGE pain as I can't think of a good workaround (besides adding a second text box and aligning it manually, which would make future edits very complicated). Is this a glitch in Storyline? Does anyone have the same problem and how can I fix it?

Hi Aimee,

Thanks for sharing the .story file here. I took a look at it - and I'm not sure I'm seeing what you described. I checked to first align the text boxes as they were slightly askew and then I added in the gridlines to ensure that the words were staying on the same level - didn't want my eyes to play tricks on my in the am - but I don't see the jumping. Here is a screenshot so the slide in production and it appeared the same in preview (but you can't see gridlines there):

Are you seeing the jump at a particular point in time, or always based on bolded text?

I just discovered that the problem disappears and reappears based on the zoom level! So this must be a display glitch. Since preview mode displays the text properly, I think my issue is resolved.

If you would like to see this, in case you can't replicate the issue, I am attaching screenshots of the slide displayed at 70%, 80, 90, 100, 110, and 200% respectively. (I aligned my text boxes first so that won't be confusing.) As you can see, the bold word "floats" at some zoom levels and doesn't on others. (It would be nice if this was fixed in a future update but not critical as it doesn't seem to impact the final product.)

Thank you very much for your help!
