Bug with button states

Oct 01, 2021

Please be aware that there seems to be some bugs in the button states right now. I created a button with a shape and when I created the other default states (Hover, Down, Disabled, Visited), it carried over the main shape (an oval with a number on it). I then pasted triangles behind them so I could change the colors for the different shapes. When I previewed, the rollover and down state would not work. I submitted this and it was verified. It was determined that the problem arises because Storyline copies the main graphic to the other states automatically when you create a new state.  The work-around was to delete the new state, recreate it, delete the graphic that is populated, and then manually copy the graphics from the normal state to the new state. I did this and it worked.

This issue needs to be addressed since it means we will need to manually create each state for this to work properly. I am creating numbered buttons and so I was hoping I could just create it once and change the text for it to copy to all the states but this workaround will not allow it.  This will affect buttons with multiple states that we just want to change one main element of.

Here is a video showing the issue and the workaround.

 An Update...

(I found this to be an issue also with the Disabled state. When I set the button to be disabled as default, it would show as the normal state (even though the button was not active). I had to delete the main circle image, copy and paste it from the normal state. Again, it will mean I will need to change the numbers in each state for all future duplicates I create which is a real pain if you hope to make one prototype and re-use.)

Hello Emma!

This is still an open issue where the hover state shows all objects from normal state even if the hover state does not contain them. I've linked this conversation to the bug report and will update you if it's released in an upcoming update.

The current workaround is to remove the shape from the Normal state that persists in the Hover state.

Hello,

I have this problem with the deactivated state which storyline creates automatically. When I put the beginner state on deactivated, the review shows two symbols on the button - the symbol from the normal state and the symbol from the deactivated state. The new state which I created works fine and does not overlap with the other state. What is the work around for this problem? Please help.

Hi All,

I am facing the issue with the hover state, I have added a text to appear on hover of object and when I published the course fount that the hover state of the objects stuck.

To disappear the hover state I have to again hover over the object. Anybody also facing the same issue.

Thanks

Hi Elisa,

What you described sounds like the issue reported in this post. I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. We'd be happy to help find a workaround applicable to your setup while we're looking for a more permanent fix. If you're comfortable sharing your Storyline file with us, you can upload it here or privately in a support case. We'll delete it when we're done testing!

Hi Yogesh,

I'm sorry to hear you've hit this snag! I ran some tests, and the hover issue does not happen with a sample Storyline project published in Review 360. I'd be happy to help troubleshoot this problem and would like to start with clarifying questions to understand your experience better.

  • What kind of object has the hover state on your project, a button or shape, etc.?
  • Did you publish to Web, LMS, or Review 360?
  • Would you mind sharing your Storyline file with us so we can look at what you have set up? You may also share it privately by sending it along in a support case. We'll delete it when we're done testing.

I'm looking forward to your reply!

Hello, any progress with a resolution for this? It is still an issue and taking up too much development time again. Removing the shape from the Normal state isnt really a workaround because that leaves the normal state empty when it shouldn't be. Its really frustrating to read about Storyline's new, upcoming features when there are longstanding bugs that are causing daily frustration. When are we likely to get a fix for this long-term bug?
