Building a Quiz in Storyline and the Submit Trigger for Correct isn't working

Apr 03, 2024

Hello!

I'm rather new to Storyline, and a very satisfied Rise user. Currently I'm working on building a quiz in Storyline where users will answer questions based off of what they hear in an audio file.

For question 1 on slide 2, I was able to create triggers for correct and incorrect answers associated with the submit button. This was successfully tested and seems to be working fine.

When I copied the text box and submit buttons to question 2 on slide 3, that's when some issues started. Even though I followed the same steps as on question 1 with the correct and incorrect answers, only the incorrect layer is showing -- even when I type in the correct answer.

Included is the Storyline file. Would you kindly take a look and let me know what I'm missing? There are 11 more questions to go! And once this template is locked in, I'll repeat it in the future.

(Anything after slide 3 is formatted differently and is still in draft)

Many thanks in advance!

You're doing a lot of unnecessary work.

You can use a standard Graded Fill-in-the-Blank question for this, as shown in the attached file.

  • The Submit [question type] trigger automatically checks whether the user answered the question. If not, it shows an "Invalid answer" message. So you don't need the "hint."
  • After the user enters an answer, the trigger automatically shows the built-in Correct or Incorrect layer based on what was indicated as the correct.
  • When you increase the Attempts >1, Storyline automatically adds a Try Again layer. It shows that instead of the Incorrect layer until the attempts are used up.
