Built-in templates and Imported questions / Question Banks

May 24, 2023

Hi,

I have imported multiple choice-questions from a file ( I wrote an app that uses AI to automatically generate MC-questions from learning-material and exports them to Storylines question-format), but I can't for th elife of me figure out how to apply a built-in MC-template to all my question-bank slides.

For example I picked this template called Vision and changed the background to my liking (top slide):

How can I make all my q-bank slides use this exact setup?

Right-clicking q-bank slides and choosing "Apply layout" only gives Master-slide Vision-options which only provides some barebones alternatives, so that is not an option.

Hello Tommy,

Thanks for reaching out!

In the first screenshot that you shared, you'll want to make sure that the layouts that your Multiple Choice question slides use contain all of the elements that you would like to inherit from Slide 6.1. This includes the text place holders, background image, and everything else present on the slide. To edit the layout, you'll want to go into Slide Master view, find the exact layout that your question slides are using, and edit it to appear similar to Slide 6.1. Here is an example:

I'll be glad to make a recording for you if you need help with making the changes. Please upload a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a case so we can show you how to edit the Slide Master using your actual file. We'll delete it when we're done!

Hi Joe,

thanks for helping out.

I know I can manually edit the Slide Master-slide the questions are using to reflect the Vision-example i imported, but are there no option to apply the Vision-example to all slides in the q-bank directly?
That would make the templates like Vision, Radiance, etc. even more useful in my opinion.

Even copying the content from the Vision-slide and trying to paste it into a Master Slide doesn't work either, which I found a bit strange.

It would save a lot of time having these options instead of re-creating it manually.

Let me know if I misunderstood you.

Hi Tommy,

I'm happy to chime in with a few recommendations as well! If I understood correctly, you would like to use slide 6.1 as a template for the other slides in your question bank.

  1. First, import slide 6.1 to a new Storyline project.
  2. Save this project as a reusable template.
  3. For new question bank slides, you can use this custom template to build the new slides.
    • On your Question Bank, go to the Home tab on the ribbon, click the New Slide drop-down arrow, and choose My TemplatesNew slide
    • Select the template and click the Import button.
  4. The layout for the template will also be added to your slide masters.
  5. You can apply this layout to all existing question bank slides by going to the question bank, selecting all the slides (Shift+click), then applying the layout.Applying layout to all

Let me know if that works for you!

Hi Eric,

thank you for the input, but unfortunatley this does not make any difference. I get the Vision template in the Slide Master just like before, but only the framework. I'm not getting the option to apply the full design to my slides. I guess those are just examples, which is disappointing.
Please see attachment.

Another annoyance I have is that Replay 360 never seem to get the position of the mouse-pointer correctly when recording, which is confusing for the viewers. I read this has been an issue for more than 5 years now, and it still haven't been fixed...why is that?

It makes Replay 360 pretty much useless for screen-recording unless you're at 100% scale, which almost noone are using today with modern high resolution-screens, so you have to change this in Windows every time you need to make a recording.
