button beep and highlight
Dec 03, 2013
I'm simulating a button press on a touchscreen for a project i've created. I created a trigger upon button press the button trigger plays a small beep sound and highlights the button pressed.
This only works on the same slide or same layer or transition between layers. this effect DOES NOT work for me when changing to another slide.
I already have a work around in mind but i'd like other ideas because i feel this should just work!
(my work around is to show an additional layer right after the button press to get my beep and button highlight, that addtional layer will be a duplicate of the next slide. that layer will have a Trigger to jump to next slide with a very short timeline to appear to the user that they are already on the next slide. However this will be very time consuming for me to do. any other ideas?)

Hi Randy,
You'll want to check the trigger order for this set up, as triggers are executed from top to bottom. So if the trigger to jump to the next slide (when the user clicks the button) appears before the trigger to play the sound, the sound will not play.
Changing the position of the sound trigger didn't seem to make a difference. Any other ideas?
This is interesting, I now have no beeps between slide layer transitions! I tried your suggestion and moved several beep triggers to the top and now no beeps. I moved the beep trigger down to the bottom and now it beeps. Still doesn't beep between slides though.
Hi Randy,
Is it possible to share your .story file here with us? This way we could take a look at your trigger order and see if there is anything else that is preventing it from playing. If you can't share the .story file with us here, you could also take some screenshot of your trigger panel set up, and I could start with that.
I would add the sound to a layer and set the next button to show the layer, the on the layer set a trigger to jump to slide when timeline ends, ensure you drag the timeline so the layer is only as long as the audio
Not sure why the additional layer needs to be a duplicate of the next slide just leave it blank
Thanks Phil for chiming in to help Randy here!
got it working. It just took showing the next layer on media completion instead of moving to the next layer as the hotspot trigger. that let the other Hotspot button triggers complete before moving on and "covering up" the unfinished triggers associated with the hotspot.
Thanks Randy for the update, and glad you got it all figured out!
another spot of trouble. some layers are auto advancing and not waiting for a click to advance. the only fix i have found is to delete all the "correct" looking triggers and add them back in. that seems to fix it. ideas on what's causing this?
Hi Randy,
Is it possible the trigger that was advancing them to the next layer was above that which allowed them to click to advance? You'll want to keep in mind that triggers will be fired from the top of the trigger panel down. You'll also want to check your slide properties, as you can set to automatically advance or advance by user click.
