Button visited state not highlighting when tabbed to

Mar 10, 2020

I have buttons, that need to work with JAWS and the tab key yellow highlight.

The button - when published to our LMS, works great with JAWS, however, once the button is in it's visited state, when you tab to it, it does not show the yellow highlight. I know I'm on the button, because JAWS reads the button and when I hit the space bar the correct layer displays. So it is tabbing to the visited state of the button, just not highlighting with the yellow border highlight.

I'm using Storyline 360 version 3.34, JAWS 18 in IE 11.

Hi Chris!

I created a sample course using Storyline 360 update 34 with a text box and button to see if I was noticing the same behavior with the button. You can see my test here.

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing the same behavior on my end. I can still tab through the slide and the buttons are highlighted even after they are in the Visited state.

I've attached my sample project so that you can test it on your end. I'm happy to test your file if you want to attach it to this discussion.

Hi: Thanks for the response. Can you test something else for me?

What I'm experiencing (did further testing yesterday) is that the visited button state works as long as I do not touch the visited state of that button.

As soon as I "Edit States/right click accessibility for visited state" and change the label on the accessibility of the visited state, or do anything else to that visited state - the tab to the visited state no longer highlights.

Can you try editing the accessibility label on the visited state of your button and see if you get the same thing - tab to button when visited - no yellow highlight?

Thanks so much.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the additional details and the steps to test.

I used the file that Lauren shared above to make the changes you've shared and I can still tab to it as expected. I'll attach the update here.

It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.

Thanks for testing that out for me.

I've attached a file - could you have a look, note the "Lean" button highlights the visited state, but the "Six Sigma" button does not - Page 2.

I'm not sure where I have gone wrong here.

I've tried:

* Using the button feature to create the buttons - edited by removing default button and importing image
* Using just an image as the button itself - as seen in this attachment

Thanks.
