Can Separate Storyline 1 Files Talk To Each Other

Feb 11, 2015

Good Morning,

I am working on a project that turned out to be very large (over 600 MB) because of screen captures, try its, and audio.  Due to a 250 MB file size of the LMS we use, I can upload the file, but others are having problems with playback due to bandwidth issues.

Is it possible for separate Storyline 1 files to talk to each other.  In the current one file (over 600 MB), I am tracking when they finish each scene.  Depending on whether or not they finish, an icon will show beside the topic name.  Is it possible to do this if I have each scene as a separate Storyline file?

Thanks.

Hi Sheri,

What you ask is not possible when you put your course on an LMS.

Maybe you can rely on the functionalities of your LMS more.
Split up your storyline file into smaller files (one per scene). Load them onto your LMS one by one and make sure they send a complete status to the LMS. Then your LMS is responsible for tracking completion and showing this to the end user.

If you create a multi-sco package and upload it to your LMS as a SCORM 2004 package it will generate a table of contents for you that has a completion icon next to each title of the course.

For example in my LMS I created a multi-sco package that contains 10 different storyline files:

  • Grey = not started
  • Yellow = In progress
  • Green checkmark = completed status received from the SCO.

I often see an LMS not used to its full potential so why not try it out?
