When I set a trigger for shape X to change its state when shape X intersects shape Y, I can no longer preview the slide. Instead the preview screen goes grey and the grey spinning wheel pops up and the preview doesn't load. The same happens when I try to publish the slide and view it in Rise.
I agree with Wendy; the behavior you're describing typically happens when there is a corrupt element on a slide. One way to determine whether that is the issue is to remove the affected slide's objects one by one.

Sounds like the slide (or an object on it) may be corrupt - can you upload it here and someone can take a look.
