Capturinr responses in Storyline

Mar 26, 2013

Heroes,

I am creating an evaluation (not assessment) where in learners will be asked to select options (radio buttons) for 10 odd questions. Now in the last page, I want to capture the responses and display it to the learner. There should be an option to send this result over mail. Is it possible? If yes, how?

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Diwakar!

Are you wanting to display the answers the learner selected on a single results slide or custom slide? You may be able to do this with variables. If you can give a little more information about how you'd like to set this up, or share what you have so far, maybe we can give you some suggestions on this

As for emailing results, this is currently not feature supported by Storyline. We want every feature in our software to work well. And, unfortunately, there’s no way to email results easily, accurately, and consistently. For example, if you use Gmail or your computer’s security settings are high, you can’t email results. Also, you run the risk of learners tampering with results since they can access the email before it’s sent. Given these limitations, we decided not to include the email results feature in our products anymore.

Hi Christene,

So, I am not creating an asessment using a quiz slide. In a basic slide, i am creating some questions with choices ( i am using the radio button sets). these are not assessment questions and hence the choices are neither correct nor wrong....so based on what learner's respond, at the last page of the slide I want to display all the responses they have selected. Is it possible to display this using varibales?

Hi Diwakar,

You'd need to create a variable for each option, I believe. Then you can call that variable on the slide if it was selected in the previous assessment.

Are you able to share the .STORY file for your current project? Or, if you'd like, you can create another course with a similar example assessment if you need to keep the content in your original course private. Also, if you'd like to have us look at your original file and share some suggestions, you're always welcome to submit the file in a support case. Any information sent to us in a case will be kept confidential.

Thanks!

Good morning Diwakar!

Thanks for the file

I won't be able to go through and set this up for all of your selections, but I have set up the file so that the system information selected by the learner will carry through to the final slide.

I did this using two different types of variables, just to give you some additional options. For the selections "Desktop" and "Laptop" I used a number variable. When the state of the check box for either of these options are selected, it will adjust the number variable I created for the options to "1". On the results slide, I added text with no text showing for the "Normal" state. I added a custom state of that text box with active text. On the results slide, I added a trigger to change the state of that text to show, if the variable for the response is equal to "1".

I used a similar method for the "Mobile Device" option, but I used a True/False variable. In this case, when the "Mobile Device" option is selected, the variable will change to "True". When the timeline starts on the results slide and that variable equals "True", it will show the "Mobile Device" text using the same triggers and states as the other options.

I hope this makes sense :) I'm attaching the modified file, so you can take a look and see if this works for you.

Good morning Diwakar. I hope you had a great weekend!

I'm afraid those options aren't currently supported in Storyline. We want every feature in our software to work well. And, unfortunately, there’s no way to email results easily, accurately, and consistently. We decided not to include the email results feature in our products anymore. Please review the following article for more information:

Articulate Support - Storyline doesn't include an email results feature

However, there are some unsupported methods you can use for emailing content that our community members have shared in the past. Take a look around the forums and see if some of the previous suggestions may work out for what you'd like to do. If you need some additional suggestions for doing this, you may want to post over in the Building Better Courses section for some additional exposure. I'm sure our community members will have some tips for this, or maybe give you some additional options

Thanks!
