Carrying Variable Values across slides

Feb 14, 2013

Hi there,

I'm currently working on quite a long, branching quiz that displays multiple variables that are meant to be "scores" that the player has with multiple people in a fictional workplace. Depending on decisions the player makes, those displayed scores rise and fall.

I am breaking up each scenario into a different scene, and each scene displays the score you have with each of the six people in the workplace. I have 6 variables set up which are meant to hold the scores.

What I would like to do is have a choice made in Scene 3 Slide 1 change the variable for a particular score, and have that score display the new value in any subsequent slide. Right now, I have a button click adding to a score variable, but as soon as it switches to a new slide, the variable switches back to the default 0 that I originally set.

Because of the complicated nature of the branching, I cannot manually set the variable to a specific value on each slide, as the player's movement through the game could means I may have no idea slide-to-slide what the scores are going to be.

Is it possible to capture a value change to a variable and have it carried, automatically, through subsequent slides and scenes?

Thanks!
Rob.

I have included a .zip file of my Storyline file.

Robert;

You are so close.  The problem is the order of your triggers.  If you look at the order you are jumping to the next slide before you change the variable.  If you test it on one slide it will appear to work as it cant jump to another slide but if you play the scene it will jump prior to the variable change.
