Change freeform hotpot question icon?

Jul 25, 2023

I created a hotspot freeform question asking users to click on a specific area of a screenshot. One of the reviewers asked if we could change the spinning hourglass that displays when they click on an area and before they click Submit. I looked all over but I don't see anywhere I can change this - is it possible?

Carrie,

Most developers seem happiest to change the interaction to a pick one type, and get rid of the hotspot. Then you can create all the shapes you want, making one of them the correct answer. Instead of the spinner, you can change the selected state of the new hotspot to anything you want.

In the sample, I made a spot that covers the entire slide, so the hand cursor doesn't give the answer away. Then, on top of it, I made a spot on top of the yellow, blue, and red thingys, with the red marked as the correct answer. Those three all have a visible selected state to show they are selected.

The secret is in the construction of the hot shapes. They have no outline, and they MUST have a fill color. Changing their transparency to somewhere between 95 and 99 percent makes them invisible. Put the incorrect ones on the list in the Form View, and only one at a time can be selected.

There is a lot of undesirable baggage the hotspot interaction brings with it that can be cured by using Pick One. The little spinning hourglass is only one example of some of that baggage.
