Changing Scene number and sequence

Aug 20, 2014

Hi All,

I am a fairly new user of Storyline and wanted to know how to change re-number scenes and rearrange them. I have created scenes for slides which should come in later in the course. now when i look at the player it runs the way i want it to connect to each scene, but the Menu bar shows the scenes in the sequence they were created and not arranged. Please suggest!

Thanks!

Hi George,

Welcome to the community

There are a couple things that come to mind...not sure which is best for your situation.

There are some instructions and a great tutorial by David Anderson here on How to Change Scene Order

Also, you can Reset the Menu to Match the Slides. Click the Player (in the Publish group on the Home tab). When the Player Properties windows opens

  1. Click the Menu tab (yellow in the screen shot)
  2. Click the Reset from Story button (see callout in screen shot)

Hi Rebecca -

thank you so much for this information.

Also, I am struggling to add an EXIT button at the end of the course. This is not allowing the users to close the course and it does not show as complete on our LMS.

Also, i do not see an option for Player Template, where i could possibly add the EXIT button, This can be done in Studio. Want to know how in Storyline.

Thanks.

George

Hi George,

The exit button/trigger has some known issues documented here that you may want to review and consider before including it in your course.

The Storyline player does not include an exit course button by default, but you can add one by adding a new player tab and you'll see the options to include an "exit course" trigger there.

Hope that helps!

Hi Ashley -

I was able to add the exit button but it doesnt seem to work. i have created asupport case for the same.

: I am having issues with the exit button.
1. When published through the WEB option this button works but does not work when publishing through the LMS option.
2. The completion tracking is notworking on our LMS. Could this be related to the exit button issue?

I have made changes to the configuration.js file under the LMS section as suggested in this link:- http://www.articulate.com/support/storyline/exit-course-trigger-does-not-work

Please help URGENT, as we need to upload the created course and needs to go live asap.

Thanks.

George

Hi George,

Can you also try the course at SCORM Cloud? Since that article references a modification to the published output - we're not able to assist with that element, and as the article states the exit course trigger may not work in particular browsers or LMSs. Since it's working in the web option, I'm thinking there is something within the LMS that is causing the problem - so you may want to test within SCORM Cloud as it's an industry standard for testing SCORM content. You can then share that information with your LMS team.

Since you've already shared your file with our team, I'll let Jayem who has been assigned to your case take a look at the tracking issue.

HI George,

I see that your case with Jayem has been resolved and you shared:

I wanted to let you know that the exit button and tracking are now working fine. We were uploading the story.html file instead of the story_lms.html file.

Thanks for the update and please feel free to let us know if you need anything else.

Hi Emma!

I don't know if Rebecca is still subscribed to this post so I wanted to step in and help!

Let's start with the version you are using! If you're using Storyline 360, we are now on Update 37 (Build 3.37.21453.0) so I'd recommend making sure you're up to date if using Storyline 360. Here's how to update Storyline 360.

Also, can you share a screenshot or screen recording of what it looks like on your end?

I'll be here if you have any additional questions!

Eric Schaffer

Lauren,

Not sure if you are still looking at this thread, but it doesn't work for me either. I have the latest version of 360. It looks like the numbers have changed, but the position in Story View doesn't change. This not the biggest issue, but I would like them to line up in the proper order. I have several people working on different scenes and I need to line them up for review. Any ideas?

Katie Riggio

Hi there, Eric!

I'm happy to help you troubleshoot the order!

🗒 Quick Note: Rearranging menu items won't change the order in which slides are viewed. It only changes their sequence in the menu. To change the actual viewing order, we'll need to edit the navigation triggers in the course.

Here is my situation. I have several people working on each scene. AS they send them to me I review them and add or remove stuff. When I am done I send each for review. Once they have been reviewed and approved, the script gets sent for professional voice. When I get those files back I upload them to the scene and send it out for final approval. When I have all of them back and approved, I put it all together and send it for final approval. After that it gets published.

AS you can see from my files the numbering is out of wack and the story view is out of place. I have tried to cut and paste several times and places, but the scenes will not move.

What am I doing wrong with this file. It has worked on other files.

Eric Schaffer

So the community can see the fix. I had to save a copy of my file in another location. Then in the original files I deleted scenes 2 through 8. Then I Imported each scene back in, in the order I wanted them. Then to check and see the if the order was changeable, I cut and pasted a scene.

It was strange, but some how the original file was bad.

Thanks for all the help.

Hello everyone!

Good news! Today, we just released Storyline 360 Update 67 (Build 3.67.28569.0) which included a new feature where you can easily renumber scenes in story view so they appear in the order you want.

Now all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app!
