Character Selection
Aug 09, 2013
Hi,
I have a dilemma, or perhaps i don't if you can help me.
I am designing a course which has 3 different characters. Choosing the character will not effect the content of the course however, the scenarios will change depending on the selection.
Other than creating full scenes for each chosen character is it possible to create a scene where the slide recognizes what was chosen earlier in the course, like a variable.
Essentially i need a different slide to appear with the chosen character in it and different surroundings then go back to the linear learning.
Or do i create the course with one character, then duplicate the scenes and swap out the character in each of the slides.
Thanks in advance.

Yep, use a variable.
I'd set one up for each character and then amend the states of various objects based on which character has been selected.
So say I pick character A, create a true/false variable for that character. Set it as False by default. Add a trigger so that when character A is clicked it sets the Character A variable to true. Then set your triggers to take into account the character variables and behave accordingly.
That way it wont show character A's content/slide/reference/image unless character A was chosen. Same with B and C.
Hope that makes sense.
Hi, Richard: A true/false variable would work, but depending on how many changes a different character causes, it may be just as easy to copy the scenario, make the character tweaks you want to make.
You would most likely still be using a true/false variable, though, to get them to the certain scenario slides.
Thanks for your prompt responses,
I have done a simple test to show a layer on a slide when the variable changes (Similar to Alexei is suggesting). Can i carry the state of that character variable to a new slide.
e.g, If variable = true, show this, but on the proceeding slides
Or even better. if variable = true show this slide, else show that slide (or layer)
If the variable of an object cant be saved then i guess i'll need to do as Daniel suggests.
Thanks again.
Hi All,
Just as an added piece of information, you mad find this thread, which includes a great demo and sample source file from David Anderson, helpful.
