Conditions and variables

Oct 29, 2013

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I am trying to prevent the learner from progressing forward within the training without visiting each page of the content.

  1. I have created variables for Content 1, Content 2, etc. to represent each page as True/False. I gave them a value of True.
  2. I created a trigger on each content page to say: Content 1 changes to variable value True when User Clicks the Next button.
  3. I created the trigger on the Knowledge Check to say the learner can click next (to start the knowledge check) if Content 1 value is True and Content 2 value is True, etc.
  4. I created a layer for the false statement to show the layer if Content 1 is false or Content 2 is false and so on.

But it doesn't work. Is there an easier way or CORRECT way to do this?

Hi Keisha,

I can't remember what the limit is for posting here? 4MB is running through my head, but not everything that runs through it is correct ;(. I'll check back later and see if you got it uploaded. Otherwise, one of the Articulate staff members will probably jump in tomorrow.

If there is a limit for uploads, it must be must much higher than 4MB. Just today, I uploaded a zip file of 10MB as part of an answer to a posted question. I noticed however, that it sometimes takes a veeeery long time to upload even simple bitmaps.

I didn't get an error but I can't see if the sample was uploaded. I removed all the videos and cut it down to one sequence.

I'm trying to limit their ability to take the Knowledge Check without visiting each page of the content.

And, on the Resources page, there will be several videos for them to watch (1 min in length) before they should be able to click Next.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

It's late in the evening and my brain may be fried, but I think the issue is with your Content x variables having a default value of True. They should start of as False and then are set to True as you view each slide. That way, your triggers on slide 1.3 works correctly; either go to the next slide if all variables are true OR show the FalseKC layer if any of those variables is still False (meaning you skipped a slide).

Hi Michael and Keisha,

Michael, tx for the heads up about the 10MB file. Let's see if I can keep "at least 10 MB" in my head for the forums

Keisha, tx for uploading the file. Michael is right re the variables. I went ahead and changed the default to False on the file I'm uploading. Also, though, I ran into what I think may have been another problem and have fixed it.

IF I didn't click the "manually changing the printed date" link on slide 2.1, the FalseValue layer DID now display (with the variables changed to a default of false), BUT, there was no way for me to get back to the base layer, Videos and Documents. This is because there wasn't a way to close the FalseValue layer.

So you'll see I've added an OK button to that layer and added a trigger to that button to close the layer. With the layer closed, the Learner can now go ahead and click the necessary links.

Tx, again, to you both!
