Content Playing Automatically
Mar 14, 2014
Hi There
We have created a number of tutorials and posted them to our website. Some of them are working the way we want them to but others launch automatically. The audio starts and the user is unable to stop it or navigate anywhere else in the tutorial.
We added a layer to the first slide of each tutorial and added a trigger for the audio to start when the triangle on that layer is clicked by the user, but it seems to have solved the problem for only some of the tutorials.
I went through all the settings I could think of to make sure they were the same for all the tutorials, but I am assuming there must be something I missed.
We chose HTML5 as the output for all of them and we have tried a variety of browsers and the problems are consistent across the browsers.
Here is an example of one that works we the way we want it to:
http://www.library.ualberta.ca/tutorials/understanding/ (Tutorial 2.1)
Here is one that starts automatically: http://www.library.ualberta.ca/tutorials/finding/ (Tutorial 3.1)
Any ideas for us?
Thank you!
Anwen

Without seeing the actual story file, it's difficult to guess what the issue might be. For the tutorials that don't work as expected, are you sure that the big Play button on the first slide has a trigger to play the audio (I assume that's how you set it up)?
Hi Anwen and welcome to Heroes!
I took a look at both your links, and for the second one I see how it starts automatically but I was able to click on the large "play" button and then the audio starts over and I'm able to navigate through the course. The courses also look to be sized differently - so there may be some settings that are also different and we'd want to take a look at one that isn't working properly to do some additional testing.
Hi There
Thank you for your quick replies...here is my slow one
I am attaching the file that is not working properly. I double checked that the the trigger is there and it is. I must be missing something, but just can figure out what it is!
thank you

Hi Anwen,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I had a number of issues in testing this course originally, and I believe it was my ftp site, so I ended up posting it to Articulate Online and only including the HTML5 content (after also testing the mobile player content from there as well) and both work as expected. Can you view my version here and let me know if this behaves differently for you?
Hi Ashley
No worries! Thank you for your response.
Your version behaves exactly as we want it to! So, is the solution to only post the HTML5 content to our website? Somebody else is doing that side of things, so I want to make sure I give them the correct info!
Thank you so much for your work and help!

Hi Anwen,
Yes, you'll want to publish the course and then you'll need to include all the files in the published output on your website and if you want to force users into viewing the HTML5 content, direct them to the story_html5.html link. If you use the story.html link (recommended) then your users will see the version that is appropriate to the device they're viewing it on as described here.
Hi Ashley,
Thank you so much!!!
Anwen
