Continuously reading out the angle value of a dial to a text field

Oct 29, 2018

Hello everybody,

I try to set up the following on an informational slide:

The rotation of an image object can be started and stopped by clicking a button. The rotation angle should be continuously written to a text field on the slide.

Starting and stopping is done by starting and stopping the timeline respectively. The object itself has rotation as an animation. This part works.

I transformed this image into a dial (because this creates numeric values), set the range to 1 to 360°, steps to 1°, and defined a variable "%Rotationswinkel%" assigned to it.

Unfortunately, the variable is either not written or cannot be read out to the text field.

I hope I could clearly identify the task. Any suggestions are very much appreciated. I'm relatively new into Storyline 3 and eager to learn, but at this point I don't see how to proceed.

Best regards, Hans

When you use an animation to rotate a dial, you will not see a change in the variable. You need to change the variable that is attached to the dial, in order to see the dial turn AND see the variable value change. One option is to use a looping, offstage animation that continuously changes the dial variable value. See attached a quick example.
