You'd have to use ExternalInterface in Flash and read a variable in Storyline. The ExternalInterface can react to the changing variable in storyline. You'd change the variable with a trigger on your play/pauses button in SL. The attached FLA shows how this is done.

I will check this. Also I need to control the audio alongwith the swf ( audio control is already done)
I assume this would be handled in SL as well?
Hard to say re: controlling audio. Yes, SL can control (play/pause) audio in a few different ways. I'd have to see exactly what you're referring to.
