Controlling the order in which students view the pages

Jan 10, 2013

How do you prevent students from skipping ahead in a quiz and answering Q5 before answering Q1? Is there a way to make the multiple choice question pages open up one at a time/only after Q1 has been answered then they have access to Q2?

Hello Jake,

There are a number of ways you can do this.

1. The simplest way is to set the attempts for your question to "Unlimited" (or to any number you think is reasonable). This way, when they submit the wrong answer they will be directed back to try to answer the question again. NOTE: That if you do set a limit to the attempts, the last one will direct them to an "Incorrect" layer that will have a "continue" button that will jump to the next slide.

***TIP: Customize the triggers of the buttons on your feedback layers.

2. As an added way to limit navigation - you can disable the slide control buttons (Prev, Next buttons) and just have them use your own customized buttons for the challenge.

3. Depending on how complex it is, then you can work with variables.

From experience, I find that one of the biggest challenges in tracking online quizzes is well you are not physically there to supervise and there will be learners who do (like you described) skip or even intentionally fail the first try to get a peak at the questions and answers so they can pass it on the next try. I like to limit the number of errors the learners can make in a quiz and then direct them to an exit slide that tells them that they are not ready for the quiz and display what they need to review.

Hope this helps but if you need more detail into the "HOW TO", let me know.
