Controlling Video

May 17, 2013

I know that you can layer things over videos and even have quiz questions layers over videos.  My question is can I have it so the videos pauses to wait for the user to answer a quiz question?  I want the video the start with timeline and then after a little bit a quiz question come up and the video pause till they answer the question and then the video will resume playing.  If anyone knows how to do this please let me know.  thanks

Hi Phillip,

Off the top of my head, you can do that, but this means you'd have to make do without the stock player controls. If you are ok with that, then

A) place your video on the base layer and set the layer to ''resume'' when revisiting

B) place a hotspot on top of the video area

C) place an element (any element) off slide, make it start at the point you wish the video to pause and use trigger "show layer-->Question layer -->when timeline of offslide element starts
D) create a layer with "pause timeline of base player" enabled and place your question there

Hope this helps,
Alex

Frances,

This is a dated post, and there may be better tools available today.

Take off the player controls. Place a shape over the video, to prevent stopping and starting the video by clicking on it. We now have a trigger that will show a layer at a specific time on the timeline. If you start the video when the timeline of the slide starts, the video and slide will have the same timeline. Stopping the timeline of the slide stops the video. Show the quiz layer at the desired time, and set its properties to pause the base timeline.

When the quizzing is done, a click can hide the layer, which will resume the timeline, which restarts the video.

The shape over the video needs to have no outline, a fill, and the transparency set to 98% transparency or higher.
