Controlling which layer is displayed when revisiting a slide

Apr 01, 2013

Hello,

Here's my situation:

I have three buttons on one of my slides (each of which displays a specific layer when the learner clicks on it), but I'm having trouble "clearing" the last-viewed layer of the slide when the learner leaves and returns to this slide.

Example: when the learner clicks Button 1 on my slide, for example, the on-click event displays an extra layer (let's call it Layer Z) with some text and images that are applicable just to Button 1.  This pattern is replicated for Buttons 2 & 3.

So the idea is that the learner clicks on each button to view the respective text/images.  However, when the learner clicks on the Next button to proceed to the next slide and then jumps back to the original slide with the three buttons, the slide automatically displays the last layer that the learner was viewing (Layer Z in this case).  I was expecting that the main layer of the slide would be displayed whenever a learner leaves and revisits the slide.

Any recommendations on configuring this slide so that the main layer of the slide will automatically be displayed when the learner revisits the slide (regardless of which layer the learner was viewing before he/she left the slide)?

Thanks!

Hi Ryan,

You should be able to do this by setting the revisiting properties to "Reset to initial state". Or, you could use a trigger to close the layer. Changing the revisiting options may be the quickest solution for this, though.

If that's not working for you, are you able to share your .STORY file so I can check it out?

Thanks!

Hi Ryan,

If you go to the slide properties there's a check box called "Reset to initial state". Clicking this box will give you the result you're looking for. There are good screenshots in this tutorial if you need more info. http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/controlling-a-slide-s-advance-behavior-and-other-slide-properties.aspx

Take care!

Hi All,

I am facing a similar issue. The last slide of my course is a quiz slide. I have created a custom menu button for my course. My custom menu button takes a user to all the slides in the course except the quiz slide. Hence, the last button in my Menu slide is the exact previous slide of the quiz.

If i use the prev and next button to naviagte to the quiz slide, i am getting the desired result ( the quiz starts afresh). However, if i naviagate to the previous slide of the quiz through the custom Menu button, and then click next, I am seeing both the base layer as well as the latest result layer.

Please help me to fix this issue.

Hi Chayanika and welcome to E-Learning Heroes! It looks like you did attach your .story file after all and I was able to take a look. Unfortunately, I am either not seeing what you are describing, or I am misunderstanding what you are saying.

I navigated through the course, got to the quiz slide...and regardless of answering or not if I go back again, I'm seeing the same thing, not base + result layers?
