Counters for TextEntry fields

Hello everyone,
I'm still fairly new to Storyline (and I still have the original not 2), and I have a crossword puzzle that works beautifully, but I can't get the counter to add. I have them all set to add 1 when the textentry field changes, and is equal to the letter that is supposed to be there, but it won't add, it just stays at one.
Also if anyone knows of a way to turn the text a different color if the entry is incorrect that would be wonderful.
Thank you so much for any assistance. I'm going to attempt to load my file, so that you can see what I'm attempting. I may be doing this the hard way.

Hi Rose
I found this link - not sure if it will give you any ideas

I am looking at your story file now - do you have a screenshot that has the correct answers in it - will be quicker to see what is happening when i enter correct vs incorrect character
Hi Rose
Here are some triggers to try. I have only worked on 2 down WEB
Add a trigger to the slide - this will set up the counter ready to start counting
Then I have removed the triggers you had for the 'add 1' for Text Entry fields 4, 5 and 6 and added different ones...oops this screenshot doesn't show the Add 1.00 to counter for
then here is the counter working to give me 3 points
Thank you so much Wendy for taking the tie to play with this, I will work on this today and let you know how it goes!
Hello Rose,
Let us know how you make out and if you have any further questions.
That does seem to be working! One other dilemma though. If for some reason they click in that field again, even if they don't change anything it adds another point. And if they remove a correct answer at any time, it does not remove the point :(. I might be biting off more than I can chew on this one. I was so hoping to keep it on one slide so that they could choose which one they wanted to try and answer rather than having to go in a specific order. Can I lock a text entry once it's correct?
mmm...wonder if you can change the state of the text entry box to disabled if there is something in it?
You can't change the state of a text entry box (they don't have states) but what about the state of a transparent shape? Say a rectangle that is originally hidden and then you change the state to normal? It'll still be transparent so the user can see behind it but they won't be able to click it and change their answer?
I will attempt that Ashley, thank you very much for the thought. And thank you for the information on the state of the text entry box as I was going to attempt that (good thought Wendy). Can you set a text entry box to a variable state of true, and then set it to false when the answer is correct so that it cannot be altered? That was my other thought.
I wanted to thank everyone again for the thoughts and advice, this is one of my first big projects that will go out to my support team and I want to make it as professional and glitch free as possible so they have a good first experience with CBTs from their training team!
Thank you!
Hi Rose,
I'm not sure I'm following the variable use you'd like to include with the text entry, as the user would still be able to click inside the text entry and likely type. You may be able to stop it from adjusting the value associated with the text entry but I'm not sure that would be clear to the user.
Hi Ashley, thank you for the thoughts. I'm trying the rectangle, but I can't get it to become 'normal'. I set it to hidden when the timeline starts, and I don't see it, but then I set the change state of it to Normal when control loses focus on that entry field if the answer is correct (a specific letter). But nothing happens. I've uploaded it so you can see. I left it as red so I could see if it became normal. I do have them grouped, and did try to undo that to see if it would work but that does not seem to be doing the trick.
Sorry, I did get it. I think I was playing with it too much and got some wires crossed, although I did find that you cannot do 'No Fill', you leave the Fill color (white) and just change the transparency. Thank you again, and I will post my final success :).
Hi Rose,
I'm glad you were able to figure this out - and I didnt see a file attached here ( maybe you removed it now?). Yes, no fill and transparency will elicit different results, so you'll want to use the transparency method.
I'm sorry, I meant once I successfully completed all of it, I had only gotten to about 10 at that point ;). Here is the finished product, and I am pretty happy with it. There may have been a smoother way, but for a first attempt at a CBT with this style of game, I'm kind of proud! :).
No worries Rose, just wanted to make sure I didn't miss it! Thanks for sharing!
