Course Not Functioning on "Replay"

Mar 07, 2024

My organization is new to Articulate and therefore we have built several test courses to see how Articulate files function and communicate with our LMS. We've encountered some issues. Almost all seem to occur if you leave the course at any point before completing it. We test this because many of our learners are not always able to complete a course in "one sitting".

LMS: Workday

Player Settings: the course is set to "always resume" on restart and the menu and navigation buttons are locked.

The course works wonderfully if you never leave it. The triggers, hyperlinks, navigation controls, and menu work as anticipated.

However, when you leave and come back that's when the issues start. First, while the course resumes automatically where you left off it doesn't recognize that you have visited the previous slides. As you can see below, the menu is locked.

Also, the page variables don't work, see below. We have them set to "slide # in menu" of "total slide # in menu". When you leave and come back they all say "0 of 0".

The last thing is that none of the hyperlinks work. You get to a slide and click on a link and it's "dead". However, it worked fine when you previously viewed the course.

I just don't understand what is going on. I've attached the story file. Any insight would be appreciated.

Good morning,

I'm very confused by your response. I had posted a course in SCORM Cloud yesterday. I started my review of the course but never completed it. Today, I logged back into the course and I'm experiencing the same issues I did in Workday.

The menu of the content I view yesterday is locked.

The slide variables are listed as 0 of 0 on all the slides that I view today.

And any hyperlinks that are included don't function.

This is not how we hope our courses to function. If a team member does not complete a course and picks it up two or three days later we expect that the course would recognize that they had already been there.

Hi Ivanna!

Glad to see Ron has been helping you!

Like Ron, I was unable to reproduce any of the behavior you described. Testing your file in SCORM Cloud, the hyperlinks functioned before and after revisiting the course. The slide variables were displayed accurately, and the Menu never became locked.

This would point to an LMS-based issue. I would suggest reaching out to WorkDay LMS support to investigate this further.

I apologize for the delayed response. I appreciate your assistance. My team and I have been trying to figure out why we are not able to get the same response in SCORM Cloud as you both are. However, we have also placed a ticket with Workday in the hopes they are able to provide us with assistance.

Good afternoon. I have recreated the two versions of our typical course templates. Single test with a video and Dual test with video. The purpose of the dual test is to provide our learners with an opt-out option.

I have uploaded both courses to SCORM Cloud and Workday. I am not able to get the navigation, variables or hyperlinks to work in either environment if you leave the course and return to it at a later date/time.

Below is a screenshot from SCORM Cloud after I have left the course and returned about 20 minutes later. As you can see the backwards navigation is blocked and the slide variables state 0 of 0.

Below is a screenshot of the course in WD after I have left and returned. The same thing occurs.

I've attached the story files for both courses as well as the zipped files that were created during publishing.

I just don't understand why I can't replicate your results.

Hello Ivanna,

Thanks for sharing additional details. I also was unable to replicate the behavior in SCORM Cloud so I went ahead and opened a support case on your behalf to get you in touch with a support engineer. They'll be able to help check what's exactly causing the issue for you. Please keep an eye out for an email from our support team in your inbox!

Good morning. I want to thank everyone for their help. I'm still waiting for our IT Department to update Articulate on my work laptop. However, I also have the software downloaded on my personal computer for emergency use. That copy is updated to the latest version. I was able to save my demo course and publish it from there. It worked as intended on both SCORM Cloud and Workday.

We would never have discovered this issue without your help. My manager has started the process to request that Articulate is allowed to auto-update so that we are never without the latest version again.
